Anyone else having a hard time finding ammo?
« on: April 11, 2013, 07:27:40 PM »
K so not sure if its just my area, but went to UFA the other day to grab ammo, and they were 2/3 sold out no word of a lie. And the guy tells me that they were told they won't be getting any anytime soon due to "international war concerns".....he told me that Canada's order takes 4 days to process, and the state of Texas is 10 days solely for their demand. Thus, bumping Canada off as we don't make enough demand to send ammo????

Has anyone else heard this or noticed any stocks/supplies of ammo going off the shelf and not being re-stocked?

Mind you, I haven't been to Bass pro or wholesale yet. So maybe that was just UFA's suppliers....man I'm regretting not investing in that reloading set now lol.

Boy, I sure hope this is temporary.

First I heard of it Huntress, what caliber were you looking for? I was in Coop today and they had a sale on 22 long shot. I think it was $18 for 500 rounds.

Just .22LR & 12g BB shots (which they had).

I didn't ask what other calibres he was being shorted, it sounded like they weren't getting any shipments in til further notice. But he did say he was new so maybe he was mistaken? I just thought it coincidental when I noticed someone on Facebook mention that in the USA they were noticing ammo being harder to come by.

Maybe it was just Strathmore...? Ill have to hit up other places and get back to you but I'm on shift for the next week. I'm probably just wigging out LOL. Or maybe the guy @ UFA was mistaken or pulling my leg...but he seemed serious and knowledgeable. Not something to joke about that's for sure.

Keep in mind canukistan is a tiny market more shooters in CA, PA , OH then all of Canada.  We are always sloppy seconds and are always running out in one form or another.

When my dad passed away last year he left me more ammo and reloading stuff than I could probably use in my lifetime, don't expect to buy much anymore.

Problem is that Canada's entire consumption doesn't add up to one months demand in the US. (and that's not including the DHS's hoarding(you know, where the gov't S of us want's to destroy their second amendment while stockpiling for domestic use, but that's another topic...))
Consequently we're just not a big enough customer to get first pick so to speak.
Soon as 'bammy got re-elected (still can't believe that) I bought sufficient components for our normal shooting/hunting for the year.  Bought wife a new 7mm-08 and while brass and leads weren't hard to find, it took some looking to find dies.  Luckily Ted in Leth. had a set come in.  When I called wholesale they said it was backordered.  I asked when the order was supposed to arrive, was told, "last Oct.".

I don't think there's any reason to hoard, but if you need it for fall and see it, I'd suggest you don't wait lest you be left wanting.  Just my opinion.

Apparently there's no problem getting in chinese, russian and old czech rounds, its just the US made ammo is being affected (as per 2nd hand info from the shooters edge today). Also, they haven't been shooting US rounds there for some time due to unavailability. I can't believe I was so nieeve :s

More to it than that Canada is basically under an arms embargo has something to do with letting terrorists fly planes into sky scrapers.
We are on the Shit list…

As I understand it this new UN, powergrab, er, "treaty" will eliminate that.  If I'm not mistaken on that point surplus 7.62 X 39 or .54 you MAY want to start hoarding.

Except that the Americans gave passports to those ppl and they US flew their own planes into their buildings. Canada doesn't need to kill its own people for an excuse to have a war. But that's a whole other thread lol.

I wasn't aware of that embargo. Thanks for bringing me up to speed. Might be more on top of things if I had tv or a computer or got the paper. I've noticed my stress level goes waaaay down if I don't watch the news.

And yeah, UFA has a small and limited selection in Strathmore. But it sure beats going to the dog and pony show (aka Bass Pro). That place makes me bonkers its always so stupid busy there and you can never find any one to help you with anything there. Let alone find a parking spot lol.

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone.
