don't need an explanation of why it works the best - just curious what guys like.

and fwiw I like oddball calibres - if nothing for I have something a little different.

I am partial to the 7mm Rem mag. I have killed everything with it, deer, moose, antelope, bear. It's been very versatile and performs well especially with handloads. It was the first rifle I used my dad gave me his when I started hunting and a couple years ago I bought a new Tikka T3 7mm.

In N.S. I always used a 30.30 marlin with a 4 power scope on it. Of course in N.S. we only have WT deer.
Now a days I prefer the 30.06, I find thats a good all round rifle for deer, elk and moose, which I hunt all.

I try to tailor a round in a calibre I feel is best for the animal and terrain I'm hunting, Consequently, 450 marlin, 300, 375win, sometimes 32 spcl or 3030 and just for fun and the challenge a patched .54 ball.
That being said, if I'm hunting deer locally and it's strictly about filling the freezer, it always means my scoped blr in 30-06.

I can't honestly say as I like any particular caliber over the other. I have a few different guns that I pack around and what ever one I happen to have in my hand for the game I am chasing is my favourite. If I had to choose just one caliber to own,, I would probably choose the .270 rem

If i had to pick one, it would be 7mm rem mag. Killed gophers, badgers, coyotes, wolf, deer, elk, moose, bear, and still pack it all big game season.

Next fave's are:
22-250
25-06
44 mag
And the list goes on.........

They all have their place.

.30-06 is all I ever used.I never felt under or over gunned with it.

Like other members have stated, depending what I am after,I love my 22-250 for varmint hunting,for big game I use a 7.82 Wbird .I use other calibers for different uses.

270 Weatherby. The most under rated cartridge. Does everything a 270 does only better.
