Where do you buy them Davey, and how much?

Sorry Gary, I forgot to respond to the last part of that question.

Through L&S the price will be around $450 everything included if I remember correctly. If you order through Track and Trail (the only ones in Canada that will bring them in) They were over $600, quite a bit over. Monods will not bring in the boot I posted above, at least they wouldn't the four or five times I asked.

If La Sportiva still offered their old version of the Nepal Top(now the Nepal Extreme) I would recommend those as well but sadly they are not made anymore and the new version doesn't compare, man I miss those boots... Another one of my all time favorites was the Scarpa Cerro Torre's(wore out three pairs) but again, sadly that model is not offered anymore either  :'(

Reaper, your wife is the Patron Saint of Patience and you should have a statue made in her image and put it on the dash of your car.

Hey Lurch,
I was up in Edmonton with the kid last week (more hockey) and bought a replacement pair of Hanwags. I went with the trappers, the same as the alaskans but a little higher (and heavier). Threw in a set of orange super feet and walked home from town and they are good to go. It is hard to part with the old boots, but they wouldnt repel water anymore. You know you can forecast fog 90 days before opening day of sheep season.

If you walked home from town (Edmonton) they are likely well broken in  :D.

Are the trappers insulated?

My Alaskan's certainly don't owe me anything - bar none the best boots I have owned.

I tried them on and my feet went ahhhh! Good enough

My Alaskans didnt owe me anything either.

Lurch,

I have the all leather version of your Alaskans, the Yukons. I love 'em, they owe me nothing, but are basically done for any serious use. If a guy wants a boot the next class or two up, those Omegas are unreal. Flawless, bombproof quality. Couple that with Hanwag's lasts that fit my foot like a glove and, well... I hope too order a pair in the next month or so...

IMO one of the best boots on the market right now is the Hanwag Omega. A better boot than the Alaska's but be prepared to pay more as well.

Well I ended up going with another set of Alaskan's

I would suggest the folks at Lathrop and sons if you are looking for Hanwag's - great folks to deal with.

I went with the high country footbed too - so far it seems great.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.
