Wrist Release vs. Hand Release
« on: September 23, 2011, 12:18:28 AM »
Been shooting the new bow quite alot lately with my newly purchased Truball wrist release, but as of late I broke out my old Hand Release which is a relic and I really prefer shooting with it... I have a short draw length so the smaller release allows me to lengthen my draw and arrow - and it just feels right (I think).  That being said, I can't seem to find much selection out there for hand releases (3 or 4 finger)  Am I weird?... should I just be looking for a better wrist release? what are the other advantages / disadvantages?

Any suggestions?

Actually, hand held releases are the most popular amongst 3D shooters now so that they can get a back tension release.  As these releases eliminate the possibility of 'punching' they have improved many peoples shooting ability.  TruBall, Carter and Stanislowski (to name a few) all make hand held back tension releases.  However, most guys still use a caliper (wrist) release when hunting as they often do not have proper conditions and shooting technique for a back tension to work properly.  The Carter Target 4 plus release may be a good combination for you as it a hand held release that has a thumb trigger.  I still use my caliper release for both 3d and hunting as I am most comfortable with the anchor point as well as the shootability (after 17 years with the same release, its hard to teach an old dog new tricks LOL).
