180+ Whitetails in Fields in Daylight?
« on: October 18, 2013, 05:24:05 PM »
A question for all you other Whitetail fanatics out there: How many times have you run across a 180 or better in a field during legal shooting hours? And what time of the year? With all the pressure from the road warriors around here its almost a guarantee you won't catch a mature buck in a field unless its pitch black. Not even in the peak of the rut.

That being said, in the last 3 nights I have seen 3 different shooters, all over 180, feeding away in a field. Its the weirdest thing Ive ever seen. One of them even walked calmly across a well travelled Twp rd, fed for 5 minutes within 40 yards of the road then sauntered across the field towards my stand.

Now Im sitting in a different spot and I just watched about a 150 (give or take) cross the road, walk right through my neighbors yard and stand in the middle of the field eating...at 5pm in broad daylight!

Did I wake up in the twilight zone?

Maybe you fell asleep in your stand and had a dream ??

It's definitely getting rarer these days but can't say as I have ever seen that many 180 class whitetail in broad daylight in a season let alone one night and I live in some of the best whitetail country there is.. You are in some fine country there. Keep it secret.

I live in pretty decent whitetail country as well and can honestly say in 23 years of hunting I've only ever seen a handful of legit 180"+ whitetails. Good on ya.

Same 23 years chasing whitetails and can count maybe 6 or 7 180 plus deer, all seen in the rut, most often between 10 AM and 2 PM.

I agree with Paul.  Most big bucks I have seen have been mid day.  Its like they chase does all night and do the walk of shame around midday - maybe to avoid their buddies!!  LOL

That said, the 178" whitetail we shot a couple years ago was right at sunrise.

I believe there are a number of factors that affect daytime deer activity.  The moon is one of them.  In a full moon period deer can be active in the middle of the night, rest and chew cud in the early morning and then get up and feed around mid day then be bedded down again when the hunters go out for the evening hunt.

My brother-in-law will be there and probably his sons.  I will be in the area but looking for a calf moose.  I likely won't shoot a deer up there unless a B&C attacks me.

22 years hunting, out virtually every day from August till December the last 5, have never saw one.  Its either the twilight zone or whitetail heaven!

It’s the time of year for pretend and fantasy tales for sure it don’t take much searching on forums to see that.

Ethics the dreaded road hunter and property’s that only I have permission are a theme this time of year.  If Tuc said that he had seen 3 deer of 180s I wouldn’t question it why wouldn’t I believe him? As for BB saying it well…  you are a successful hunter so maybe?

BB to me you are like a Disease this site could ban you but you would only be back kudos to you for not pretending to be someone else this time.  I should say that I find you highly entertaining you had a thread were you had wounded something and where rounding up help to go and find it classic man watching all the guys offer to help you I should see if I can find it you really had them going.

Playing Mr. Dress up on this site is pretty minimal would be nice to keep it that way.
Any ways getting hungry I have a new way to cook hotdogs in the microwave I fill a coffee cup full of water and nuke them for 2 min yum.  And that ani’t pretend
