2013 Alberta Elk

I have been hunting elk for the last month with my bow. I had been doing some hunting with a friend around Pincher Creek and had access to some excellent Elk country. We had done some hunting and were looking for a solid mature bull. We had seen a few early in the season but had not had anything coming together. On October 18th I had an encounter with a phenomenal mature bull that had me wanting to get him. It was a mature bull with dark antlers that had come in quietly on us in the timber near the end of the day. I had him at about 25 yards and took a shot (looked like a clear lane to me) but the arrow never reached the bull as it hit a twig, deflected and broke at the bulls feet. Anyway this was definitely a bull that I was going to look for for the rest of the season. I had spent the last weekend looking for him but was unable to re-locate the bull. I got the call yesterday that my friend had seen the bull and we could possibly get in and put an arrow in him that evening. I headed out and we climbed to where the bull was seen a few hours earlier. The bull was within 100 yards of that area and we set up with the bow. The bull was alone and immediately was leary of us trying to cow call him. After about 30 minutes, it was clear that the bull was not going to come in for an arrow. He walked off through the forest and I converted to Remington 300 Win Mag. Followed the bull for a few 100 yards and was offered an 80 yard shot. Anyway, I think its a great bull and I am extremely happy with him.

Thanks guys. I check him out a few times a day. Still cant believe I got him. My 12 year old daughter said to her mother "So how long are we going to have to talk about Dad's elk?". LOL I guess I have been talking about it too much. LOL
