As was expected looks like a lot of zones went to draw for archery mule deer.  Kind of interested to see what happens.  A couple of the zones around home are part of the changes and hopefully it helps as the numbers and quality compared to even a few years ago are down and we haven't had a significant winterkill.

Have any of you heard of this Quota hunt that is listed here, I've never  seen it before.
Have any of you ever heard of this quota hunt implied here or is this new?

Two Additional Opportunities
1. Each year, there are more special licences than applicants in some WMUs. These undersubscribed special licences are made available for sale to eligible hunters (see page 17).
2. If the harvest of a certain species in a specific area is still inadequate, quota licences and tags may be available to take a specific number of animals at a specific time and location. - See more at: http://albertasportsman.com/alberta-fishing-hunting-news/2013-alberta-hunting-draws/#sthash.iaNhBVRY.dpuf

Nothing new although not common, over the decades I've taken advantage of quota hunts for deer, antelope, and elk.

They are short notice, high demand tags. Think kids trying to get rock concert tickets.

Case in point, last years Suffield cow hunt.  Thankfully with everything on the internet and our current fair draw system we all hear about it.  It didn't used to be like that.

I know it is sort of just semantics but there is no "archery mule deer" licence.

I'm sure what you mean is that in areas where a hunter requires a draw to hunt mule deer with a rifle, in the general season, they will also require a draw to hunt them with a bow in the bow season.

I guess that would be what I meant deerman although I never did say the word licence in my post.  With there being an archery mule deer season either way I'm sure it is understood what I was getting at but thanks for clarifying anyway :D.

Looking like a 999 year for me.  Have a couple great trips planned as well.  I got drawn for elk and deer in Montana and I will be taking my son for a 3 day deer/hog hunt in Texas in October.  Should be a great season.
