2014-15 Predator Hunting Thread
« on: December 17, 2014, 08:31:51 AM »
Figured I'd start a thread for the guys going after the Predators:
Coyote, Fox, Wolf, or Cougar.  Winter is long so lets fill it in with some stories.

I haven't been out calling much yet  or setting snares but did get a couple meatcicles placed out last week.
Hope to get some time this weekend to get after a few.

One would have to be a pretty good stitcher to sow that one up lol..

$25 down the toilet there..

Good shootin Jimmy.

After Christmas when I come back up to work going to bring my .243 with me and do some driving around. See if I can't thin out some of the vermin around the Valleyview country.

I have 12 coyotes & 1 wolf so far this year.  The wolf lost its life on one of your old cut blocks, Walleyes!!!  All done with my .204.  Nice small entry hole, no exit hole - 32 gr. Hornadys out of my Ruger Hawkeye.  A local trapper buys them whole, so no skinning, fleshing, or lice to deal with!!  Next time you are in the area visiting, give me a call Terry, and we may be able to further diminish the coyote herd.

I am looking to buy an electronic predator call, think the dogs must be getting smarter.  Used to be able to get them in with mouth calls but only have minimal luck these days. Can't find much local information on which calls work best here and don't want to break the bank.........anybody have suggestions for me, thinking the Primos Alpha dog ?

We've sold a lot of alpha doggs, never had a complaint, have gotten pictures sent to us after a successful hunt with them. I think they are a great call.

We are actually out of stock on the Primos Alpha Dogg at the moment. Good luck on your hunt though!

Well the Suffield hunt went well, buddy and I had 4 cows down by 2:30 .......toughest job ever getting them dressed and loaded before military curfew but we made it !
Managed to find an Alpha Dog and having a riot with it. Once I figure out how to post pic's I will put some on. Dog's seem to like the sound and learning what sequences work best. Rolled one over at 250 yrds kept the call going and another one came in and he down like a rock too. Must have hit him close to the spine cause as I was getting to my feet he suddenly jumped up and got to the bush. Tracked him but he never slowed down and only a couple drops of blood and eventually lost him. Using the Ruger 204 -40 grn Vmax works good but thinking of stepping up to the 243- 50 grn , had some wolf sign close by and wouldn't want to loose one of them.
Be heading out again tomorrow so hopefully another exciting day!

Anybody know what the hides worth these days hearing lots of different stories.
