Title: 2015 WT Hunt and Bush Camp
Post by: AxeMan on November 22, 2015, 07:19:36 PM
We did our annual November bush camp again as per tradition.  We only had WT tags this year.  We didn't get a moose tag which was probably fortunate as the timber wolves are still peaking where we hunt.  Some of the wolf sign and howling was quite impressive.  I am impressed at how these predators work the bush.  Chickens were plentiful and we had a good grouse BBQ one night too.  Trevor had a great chef tip this year which involved an Italian salad dressing marinade.

The WT hunt was okay with quite a few bucks seen but none were really big guys and the boys passed on many before accepting that a cranker was not in the cards.  The bucks were more localized in the traditional hot spots and that was generally in the larger blocks of bush away from the lines.  I think they are smart to shy away from the wolf hi-ways.

The road into our camp was in rough shape this year and we fought our way in the mud and out in very icy ruts.  We are the brothers of 4x4!  We did a couple of camp enhancements this year and one was an elevated wood floor on sheeted pallets.  We did plywood on the ground before but this is a notch up.  The level and sturdy floor was nice.  We also burn a couple scoops of coal in the wood stove at night now too and that heats all night.

It was a good time in the bush again but sadly we had to come back to civilization.  Here are a few pics from this year:

Some more pics.  Tin shrouding around the wood stove really helps and reflects the heat nice.  We never skimp on good firewood.  Good wood heat is the secret to a very comfortable camp.
The trailer I built a few years ago is still going strong; great as a game and firewood hauler.
