2020 Moose Hunt.
« on: October 12, 2020, 04:02:23 PM »
We drew two tags this year and were successful our second morning of the hunt with two dandy young bulls. It was just my oldest son and I this year.

We we’re calling at a 4 way I was watching one way and my son the other. I had been calling for couple hours then all of a sudden there was a cow standing on the line the way my son Jesse was watching bout 250 yards down the line coming towards us but of course she’s on the dirty willowy line not the clean one.  So Jesse got my attention but all we could see was the cow then pretty soon we could see another moose behind her threw the willows but I thought just a calf.  But pretty soon we could see small horns so I came over by Jesse then pretty soon their was another bull they were both following her.  But they were all standing together and there was lots of willows we were trying to get a clean shot but couldn’t so we decided to try and move closer to them and get a clear shot. As we were walking up the cow and one bull walked into the bush on the left and the one stayed but was facing right at us, we found a decent shooting lane and got ready and when he turned I shot and he ran straight down the line towards us and I shot him again in the chest and he went into the bush on the opposite side of the other 2.

So we figured that was it we got one the other one and that cow must be gone we were just kinda talking quiet then the cow came back out on the line, so we got ready again cause we knew if she stayed out the other bull would come and sure enough he came out of the willows and onto the line but him and the cow were one in front of the other so Jesse couldn’t shoot, then that bull in the bush must’ve kicked and kinda spooked them and the cow jumped and the bull turned a bit and Jesse shot the bull went down but not our and was trying to get up so Jesse ran up and he tried to jump up and He shot him again in the neck and put him down and out. They both were down bout 20 yards from each other. Very happy with these two at this time of year, I’m not interested in a 5 or 6 year old bull in mid Oct these are exactly what we went for.

Camp 2020.

Our 2 Bulls.

Back in camp cooling that afternoon. Bulls were shit at 10:00 am. Back in camp hanging by 3:45 pm after and 8 mile pack out with the quads.

Had heart for supper the next day.

Sweet. I remember the many Oct long weekend hunts with dad and the uncles off 43, halfway to Fox Creek. Some times 2 bulls were taken and that made the hunt even more special.

Congrats to you both, some good eats there. Nice came too. I miss our wall tent hunts.

Excellent looking meat Walleyes. I don't think you could get much better.

Hope you will be able to get a bit of hunting with your grandson.

Thanks for the post.

I’m sure we will get out for a deer hunt or two this fall.

That boy is counting the days already until he will come on our moose hunts, the force is strong with that one I’ll tell yah.

Thanks Gentlemen.

Here’s something you all might find interesting, a time lapse video my son ran while we were field dressing the animals and getting them ready for transport. Time to have the 2 bulls ready for the quad tub, 1 hr 45 min.

Way to go guys!

Next to cutting birch for the winter I can’t think of anything more Canadian then a proper moose hunt.

Sadly most don’t do either.
