We always plan our hunts this time of year. Print off our priorities, go through the past draw results to narrow down where we can be drawn for what, compare that with general tag opportunity's and what we'd like to hunt this year, what next year, etc.
So many hunting opportunity's, so little time.
The only thing I'm not sure of is my elk draw. Do I raise my bull P7 as I'm getting close, or do I try for a local cow tag? With 17000 applicant's for the cull tags I don't think I can count on another undersubscribed cow tag, so I'm thinking I have to choose one or the other. I probably won't know my decision until the draw book comes out and I can weigh the options better. I may have to, (gasp), "roll the dice"!
Ya, I know I'm anal about planning our hunts but I've never liked surprises and as far as I'm concerned gear failures are just improper prep. When in my 20's we'd think nothing of heading into the hills mid Nov. on a whim with little planning and prep, in an old truck that may or may not make the trip. Being anal about prep makes for fewer stories but is more enjoyable.
