9 years deerless
« on: December 06, 2016, 10:35:02 PM »
Well it's been 9 years since I shot a whitetail. I got spoiled early in my career, and I have gotten very fussy. I have let countless bucks walk, even some bucks I probably should have shot, but just looking for what I am looking for I suppose. I have seen some shooters over those 9 years, but just hasn't worked out. Looking back now I feel very spoiled at not only the number of deer, but the quality. Used to be nothing to see 5 or 6 shooters in a week. Maybe next year.

I am a meet hunter, but I have been selective with deer the last few years. Seems if get a meat buck or doe every few years it last. I vacuum seal all my meat now and it last longer, so on the years I don't need the meat I am looking for a nice buck. I try and get my elk and moose each year depending on tags our groups gets.I guess when you have the years in and been there done that, we are always looking for something to stimulate the excitement of the hunt. I have been using my black powder with cap and ball the last few years for deer to up the anti on the chase, it has brought back the fun of deer hunting again.

Year number 5 not folding a whitetail tag for me.  I did have a shooter walk by me and long story short I hit it but ended up losing it.  First deer I've lost and felt pretty crappy about it.  Don't know what happened it was a pretty easy shot.
Spent a lot of time looking for a big moose and ended up taking a young one on the last weekend.  Hope to post a few pics when I get more time.

I folded a doe tag this year and passed on a  number of smaller bucks.  I was hoping to feel my moose tag but this was not the year.

Been about the same for me Paul. As you I  have been very selective the last few years, just waiting. I never even got out for Whitetail this year, that I did miss, big time. That Nov moose hunt through a wrench into my whole season, never again !! No wild meat for us at all this year, a few grouse is it.

Well it is good to hear that I am not the only one. For a while there I thought it was crappy luck or I was not doing my part.

haha... no problem with the shootin' part..  ;D  but my lungs are farked..

A 100 yard walk to put up a target has me gasping for breath..  :(

Maybe I should get a spotting scope to save me the walk.

Did you hear that Santa?   A spotting scope would be nice..  ;D

You have to invest in a quad for yourself Sonny they are a very effective tool for deer hunting. I've seen as many big deer off my quad as I ever did walking. Lots of reasonblly priced machines out there these days $3000 gets you into a reliable machine, as long as it's red that is 😉 Shoot even for a $2000 you can get into something you can use.

I have a quad..It's an old 1999 Honda fourtrax 300 and it runs great.

It gets me where I want to go and back again but ....my windbags are shot. :(

I'll send you mine it's a Vortex Nomad.  For shooting on the range it should serve you fine.  In the big picture I'll be honest it is not a top of the line scope but for range purposes it should do the trick.  Just pm your address and on the way it will be.

If you are 60 , there is an old saying. Just when you get your shit together your ass falls apart.
If you are too busy to hunt , you are too busy.
