Don't know much about spotting scopes, some of the sheep hunters can probably recommend on those, as far as rifle scopes what's your budget?

What are you looking to hunt? What distances are you comfortable shooting at? Budget?

If budget "is' an issue, redfield's are IMO a very good scope for the dollar. The lower level leupold's are very nice as well, a slight step up from the redfield's plus both are made(or at least assembled in I believe Washington state and have Great warranty)
If budget is Really an issue, don't discount the lower end bushnell's. They work just fine.
My personal experience the only bad money spent on a scope is the "mid range" one's. To my eye they offer nothing over the lower end one's except a higher price tag.
I've never had a high end scope myself. Biggest thing against you right now is the low Cdn. dollar, making prices higher.
We've just an old winchester spotting scope I picked up on sale years ago. Nothing fancy but it spots animals from over a mile away. Not enough zoom to get technical, just to identify.

Get a vortex.. Super reliable and great warranty! Spotting scopes seem to me as the cheap ones just don't cut the mustard! Spend way to much time looking through them and the lower end ones cause me eye strain and result in headaches! Get a decent set of binos maybe a vortex hd series. Never used the spotting scope for deer

I like the Vortex,, they seem to be good units for their dollar. We have two of them now, havnt had them long enough to know how they hold up but so far they seem decent.
I will always be a Leupold guy at heart. You can find a scope in just about any dollar range in a Leupold and you can be rest assured it's a good item that will serve you for years.
