And So It Starts

I am sure the hunting instincts are starting to stir in most of us now with the colder nights and the first few hints of fall in the air.
With bird hunting starting next week on Sunday, the wait is over for another year.
Like usual, I get the itch and it consumes my free thoughts and I have to burn off that energy.
It starts with getting the guns ready and doing some sighting in, usually a few mods or new additions, and more time behind the trigger. I shoot all year around, but this year had me doing a lot more as I changed up some loads and some optics.
Then there is the scouting and field prep stuff that can be a lot of fun. This year we will be hunting a lot more around home so some tree-stand upgrades, clearing a few shooting lanes, and game cam set ups. It is nice to know what potential animals are in the area. Also talking with neighbors and confirming permissions and helping them out too, now is that time.
Nothing irks me more than some lazy slob that heads out in November and spots a deer in our field from the truck window and wheels into the yard and asks if he can shoot it. Nope, sorry bud, but if you would have showed up earlier in the fall and introduced yourself and chatted and showed some character ethics and knowledge of the area, perhaps offering to help out, then the maybe the answer would be different. So many types like this, then they whine on hunting forums that permission is hard to get, or pull a tag in a particular WMU and then go online and ask: " what is it like there?, where are the animals?....lol...goofs.
Some pics of the work of hunting, all fun and part of the game. Seeing some decent bucks, and a few potential moose for our draw already.
Lets see and hear about your plans.

Nice work Axe.
Yes it still to switch modes now put the fishing behind and get the brain on animals. I do have a couple fishing trips left in me we will see but yes the brain is slowly switching over.

Pulled a couple cameras today and there has been quite a bit of elk activity the last three days. Still moving pretty early and late....but definitely on the move. Poor quality pic as it is a pic off a video on the computer...........the camera pic is much better.
One more week to wait

Caught this guy out in the open field a few days ago.
Crappy cell phone pic, but a real nice one for sure. Muley.
Should have him on the trail cams real soon.

It's gear up time alright. Starting to look at the tent, trailer and the rest. I did a good job last year putting things to bed so not to much to do. I spend some time on horse back in my hunt area during the summer so I have a good lay of the land and animals. Guns are a year around deal for me also, so nothing big there. Be getting after chickens starting Sunday, it's Christmas for hunters soon.

Hey Axe: I thought at first that was a picture of Elizabeth May, and what in the Dicken's is Axe doing hanging around with her?

Got a pretty decent 3x3 hanging around. On Sept 2 he was just out of velvet.
Definitely on my Strathcona tag list so far.

And a nice young smooth cow hanging around too for the antlerless tag.
There are a few bulls as well; I hope they don't lead her away too far.

Got my trail cams up today on the back 40. See what’s out there this year, weather providing I’d like to fill a bow tag maybe.

My buddy's wife got a nice gnarly old 3x3 wt today. Big bodied deer!
Nice follow up to her huge bull moose in the same area a few years back.
Nice one, Jen.
