I have no issue with baiting for bears, except....

Why the heck do we allow people to feed bears some of the crap used for baiting?

Gummy bears, buckets of transfat....

New studies are showing that black bears can and are developing diabetes from the food supplied by people.

For the health of the animals, Bear bait should be restricted to pure animal parts and grains, no processed foods, no sugars....

You must be kidding I hope you are kidding.

If there actually has been diabetic studies done to bears on bait sites every person involved should be fired and payback there wages in community service…

Walleyes was refering to the site Alberta outdoorsmen were he was banned for posting like the one you quoted.     Bucktraker of it is not for you that is ok but don't go bashing it cause all you are doing is fueling the bs for the antis.  Also it ain't as easy as you think it is.
Thanks JustinC, at least you had a pair of hairy one's unlike walleyes to tell me which site.

Funny thing Walleyes. You seem to be in the middle of it with everyone. Glad your such a good judge of character to call everyone else down. Good luck with your forum here and your rule making. You sir are as big of waste as anyone you comment against. Have fun with your club here. In some ways it's turning worse than other forums.

Back to the baiting,,,

Do me a favour,, go back and read through the post's and show me where I attacked you and yer buddy first,, go ahead. You guy's poke and jab and when the bear bites back you yap and scream like little girls. I never responded to your whimper of a PM because I didn't want to carry on or prolong any dispute,, just let it be,, but nope not with you 2,, can't be done. Your little friend,, no sooner he gets back on here pokes the bear,, why I don't know. Can't handle it when someone sets you two goofs straight I guess.

What ever,, got no time for either of you.

Sorry to the rest of the board and mods that you all have to be witness to this mess.

I've tried to keep it private but some one keep instigating on threads. And we are the crybabies?? What kinda school yard midget posts a picture like that and then claims to be in the right and everyone else is wrong. Ya I talk to much sometimes but at least i can admit it!
He couldn't even admit jhe was wrong for his actions in the buy and sell!! Honestly it's turned into a big joke. I let the admin know my thoughts and also let Walleyes know via pm so if he wishes to keep instigating you may as well suspend me now!!

I will try again

Every spring about this time I think about Bear hunting. I have never bought a tag or gone on a bear hunt but i think it would be fun. I just don't have any desire to kill a bear. Only because I am not sure I want a rug or to eat one. Ask my gal every spring, what about putting a rug on the wall over there? She just says what ever, if you want to go ahead type of reaction. Not a real motivator and I think about how many Bear rugs people put up for sale. Do they get tired of the rug?
They don't seem like they would be very difficult to hunt or success would be a problem because I bump into them often enough. The province does not want us baiting other species and i am not sure what the reason is but like every other armchair quarterback i have my ideas too. Bears are different in that there are too many guys like myself who sit on the fence and don't hunt them. If next year the hunters of this province killed 10x as many they would probably stop the baiting...maybe? As it stands if we get closer to ideal management numbers with baiting, I am all for it. Whether you would want to shoot one or not over a bait is up to the individual. It sure would be exciting to hear something then finally see it. If you think about it it is very similar to  fishing. No baiting is kinda like casting out into a lake and hoping for a bite, you never see it coming and it may be the only one, so you may be more inclined to shoot a smaller one and still keep hunting for a bigger bear  next year.  When you get that you end up putting the smaller one up for sale because your mrs. says- "only one bear Lad" haha
Hunting Bear over bait is like ice fishing....Looking down the hole and then the fish swims up with your heart a pounding and..... you pull the hook away cause you want a bigger one, not the  little one that you just seen. It is very interesting hearing all the different points of view. The old adage about free advice or opinions being worth what you pay for them is so true in this arena. Just think.... You spent time reading my opinion and I warned you way back at the start, never done it before so...really know zip about it so...thanks for your time! lol

Good post lad..

As for myself I have never hunted bears over bait for the simple reason that it is not egal here in the foothills.

I have shot a few bears over the years but it was all spot and stalk.Mostly on old pipelines, powerlines and cutlines. All the bears were turned into rugs but I can't remember how many rugs I gave away to non hunting relatives that just wanted a rug for the wall.
The last bear I shot was about 20 years ago and he's still hanging on my wall and it will most likely be the last one I ever take.

Unless ofcourse a grumpy bear wanders into our campsite and won't leave..  :o :o lol

Anyways to all the bear hunters out there I'd like to wish you good luck.. ;)

Very logical post lad.

In the end I believe that's what most hunters and outdoors people hope for, just the ability to hunt in the fashion we choose and not be judged. Each to their own and for their own reasons. Some hunt only for meat, some for the hide, some for just the enjoyment, each to their own. As long as its legal we should try our best to support each other. There is nothing wrong with other views and suggestions we just have to be careful how we deliver the message.

I am close to sonny in how long it's been since I actually shot a bear myself. Except for the previous 4 years that I lived in the south we ran a couple baits every spring yet I have only taken 2 bears with my bow over bait. I just enjoy being out there sitting over my bait and well,,, just being there. I have been holding out for the perfect colour and it just hasn't happened yet, it may never happen but I will have a heck of a time in the mean time.

Nice Bear Sonny.  I've ran baits a couple seasons and had bears coming in but never ended up harvesting one until I made a trip up north one year and shot a smallish one in a clearcut.  As mentioned baiting is by no means a guarantee and anyone willing to put the work in to run a bait deserves to get a bear just as much as someone who prefers the spot and stalk imho.
