Bear Movment
« on: March 29, 2016, 07:31:35 PM »
Anyone seeing any sigh yet? Still a bit early. I was up near the Ram on the weekend with horses, but still lots of snow up top of course. As a matter of fact we got caught in a hell of a white out. Hid under a tree for a bit. Everything is still and the snow is falling like crazy, my wife turns to me and says, you know your an idiot for bring me way the hell up here this time of year... all I could say is (yes dear)  :-\

I will, now that she's talking to me again. You think after 30 years she would accept some of the "FUN" adventures I take her on.  ::)

Haven't seen anything yet west of Rocky/Caroline in my travels but don't think it will be long.  Feels like this year is going to be really early.  Will be north of Nordegg starting next week until June and will post if I start seeing some.

I did the 3 plus hour drive from Hinton to Grande Prairie today and this is prime grizz country but nope no bears. I'd say give it another 3-4 weeks before they start moving good. There is still a ton of snow on the ground in the Rock Lake to Berland river area.
I might go back up that way mid April and I'll take the camera along just in case I see something.

Yep, they need the green grass shoots to start showing before they move around. Few more weeks maybe. I'm in no big panic, I'm really not a big bear hunting guy, I have just been looking for that special one for a few years now to get my rug. I have a deal with a buddy who loves bear meat. I get the rug, he gets the meat.

LeverAction:  Never mind the wife, what did your horse have to say to you?

Seriously, Yogi and Boo Boo still seem to be snoozin around Athabasca, Smith, Slave Lake.

Cheers.

Can't be Sonny, none in Alberta. BC grizz, on holiday's. But seriously, I think they are on the move, and looking for food. Hope the one west of town is not to close to people, never ends well.

Little black bear sighted out by nordegg this morning.  Hopefully there will be more activity starting up.  Did see another bear a couple weeks ago but it was the humped variety.

Chubby little chocolate bear sighted this morning probably a yearling.  North of Nordegg on the trunk road.  Does anyone that hunts west of Rocky/Caroline ever see much for size.  Was just thinking today that in the ten years or so I've worked/hunted in the area I've only seen two that were no doubt shooters.

About the same experience here shrubs, drayton seams to hold much better bears.

Seen some grizz that where shooters tho.
