Bloody Trespassers
« on: November 04, 2013, 10:17:14 PM »
On Nov 1 I got pictures of 2 different guys trespassing on a 1/4 I not only have exclusive permission on but also am designated (in writing) by the landowner to act on her behalf regarding access and trespassing. Through a decent fella I kinda "know" I determined who these guys are. Ive met their dad / grandfather a few times and since I couldnt find their contact info, I called him. (He lives right across the road from the property). I very politely & diplomatically asked him to mention to them that I have exclusive permission there and ask them not to drive their quads across the field in the middle of primetime and that both I and the owner dont want any other hunters at all in there. He told me he wasnt gonna tell them anything, it wasnt his problem. So I asked for their phone number (his son & grandson). First he told me he didnt have their phone number. Then he said he didnt even know if they had a phone. (The run around). Through Facebook I got a hold of the grandson. Again VERY politely and friendly I told him I was the only guy with permission and that both I and the owner didnt want any other hunters in there, so to please not be in there. I got a snotty attitude from this kid and was told that he wouldnt discuss it with me because Im not the owner. Still polite...I told him that I was asked by the landowner to monitor the land and keep everybody out. I just wanted to give him a friendly heads up that no other hunters were allowed in there. Again he says that its not my land and he wont discuss it with me. Then he called ME a trespasser (never set foot on property I dont have permission on, never once, ever) and accused me of paying for access and renting land strictly to hunt on. I warned him that the decision to press trespassing charges was up to me and that despite his snotty attitude I was still happy to write it off as getting off on the wrong foot and just agree to stay on our respective sides of the fence. Again, got a snotty "---- you" kinda attitude.

Even when your nice to these clowns and try to encourage a friendly respect for each others turf they still piss you off. The kicker about the whole thing is that I phoned this family this year to ask if I could hunt there in November. I was told no because the kids & grandkids (this kid and his dad) were coming out to hunt and they were keeping all their land for themselves. Fair enough, I respected that at the time and still do. All Im asking is for the same courtesy and respect for my efforts. I walk into my spots from the road so as not to spook anything. Having 2 slobs come driving through it on quads in the middle of primetime is not only lazy and ignorant...its illegal!

So now we dont have much choice but to get the county cop involved. It could have been a friendly chat, maybe even a beer and make a new friend. Whats wrong with people?

Some people often have trouble on Crown land bumping into hunters who have come to the same "turf".  That is why they prefer to hunt private land where they hope to have the "turf" to themselves.  It can go wrong in both areas.

I know something about the OP situation.  The fellows are using the private land to get onto some crown land where they are hunting.  They believe that the private land belongs to a long time family friend and they seem to think they have his blessing to go on it. (maybe it does or maybe it has been sold and they are not aware of that).

They have lived in the area and hunted there all their lives, so in away they feel it is part of their "turf".  Along comes a fellow and tells them he has exclusive permission and they had better stay off his "turf".

What we have here is a "turf" war.

I hope it get resolved and everyone gets along in the end.

I really tried to keep it super friendly, first between me and Grandpa, then between me and the Grandson, then between me and his Mom. All 3 were very rude & uncooperative. Id like nothing more than to have this resolved peacefully and without trespassing charges....they seem to want a fight lol.

The facts are pretty simple:
The land is owned by V.
V has never given anyone permission to hunt / quad / walk / access that land except me.
V has asked me to watch for anybody that comes in there and if I see anybody to throw them out because she dosnt want anybody in there except me.

So when you locate the guys and inform them of the situation with every ounce of courtesy, manners, diplomacy and class you can muster you would expect that anyone with any sense at all would see that you are trying to keep an awkward situation pleasant and act like an adult. But they didn't, all 3 acted like spoiled little kids with big attitudes.

If it was entirely up to me they would already be charged. The landowner is still on the fence.

You said the decision was up to you. Deal with it. If its not up to you, as you said the land owner is on the fence about it, then let the land owner deal with it. Maybe you dont have it as exclusive as you brag about....

What exactly are you looking for here?

Seems to me that some of the others on this thread are not contributing anything to the topic but are stirring the pot so to speak.
