buckbrushes season recap plus a bonus jumbo cat
« on: December 11, 2011, 01:57:38 PM »
Started this season bear hunting as usual set baits never had much success with anything big enough coming into them.

In mid may I headed to Vancouver Island to the northwest corner to hunt The giant Island bears on the grassy low tide shores seen lots of bears and could have shot many but I held out for a monster. In the end I came home with a tag in my pocket.

Spent the summer scouting for elk but never managed to get any pics of the big guy I found. But had enough pictures of spikes and cows to entertain me through the summer.

It became aparent by the end of august that deer numbers where down and the mature bucks had pretty much disapeared. But the good news was some youngs bucks show some great potential in the future. This buck I named stickers is 3 1/2 and has some amazing potential to be something great so he got the pass this novemeber when he ran by me at 30 yads dogging a doe.

I hunted close to home in October, and for good reason my life changed in so many ways when we welcomed this little guy into our lives!

I was able to sneak out on one of the last weekends of October with Naturalbornfawnkiller and take my boat down the river and look for some elk or moose with the bows. We seen a few but nothing on the side of the river that was still general.

Started hunting a new area in north east Alberta this year hoping to learn more about bush whitetails and maybe catch a glimpse at one of the monster forest bucks. But never managed to see anything that was over that 145 class kind of buck. Had a blast learned some new country and even got out with my dad for a hunt!

Next big hunt was off to Saskatchewan to see if we could find a couple bucks for me and my dad. He ended shooting his meat buck half way into the hunt and so did our good friend Bob. I held out and ended up coming home with my tag in my pocket. Numbers where good but still there seems to be an age class of deer missing.

I came home and spent a day with my young family and I was back out the door to Wainwright for the camp muzzleloader hunt. I hiked my skinny arse off never seen anything I wanted to shoot. I could have shot a few does but after seeing the sad state that the deer where in I figured I better leave some breeding stock for years to come. It was a fun and got to meet some fellow AO'ers. great to meet all of you!

Well I came home and unpacked my bags and repacked them waiting for a call from TNT OUTFITTERS when they had an opening. The call came in Thursday night and off I went. First day all we found was a lone big female after driving for 15 hours that day. Saturday morning we decided to try a new area and by 10am the other truck had located a monster track! After sorting out the tracks from the cats previous travels the dogs treed him after a short run. Byron pulled out his laser pointer showed me where to stick and arrow and I blasted him rite on the dot. Unfortunately the arrow never seemed to do much to the cat, so I sent another arrow on the way and blood sprayed out instantly!!! the cat jumped from the tree and ran along the steep bank where he ended up bleeding out and dying in his running tracks a short 50 yards away. I couldn’t believe the size of this thing and the excitement in the guides voices I could tell he was a monster! This is as big as they get! I haven’t scored him yet but they said if he doesn’t go over boone they would be shocked, which is pretty cool because ive never shot anything boone&crocket with a bow! He weighs somewhere between the 180-190lb range. These guys are the best in the business there equipment and there knowledge of a cats behaviour is outstanding. Very professional and accommodating. The only thing that would have made this hunt better would have been if my buddy "steve" could have been there. He had other work commitments to attend to.

Congrats to everyone this year lots of big bucks and great tasting animals posted on here! This forum is a great place most of the time and Ive made some great friends here.

Congrats.  I went with Wayne Anderson in December and shot a 182 lb tom with my bow west of Nordegg.  My pics are on my other laptop that is in the shop.  I will post pics as soon as I can.  What a rush hey?  Thanx for sharing.  Congrats on a fine hunting season.
