Cougar Self-Defence
« on: September 13, 2011, 11:04:50 AM »
No this is not a lame joke if the subject threw you!LOL! Was floating around on AT and found this post out of Alberta. Guy was hunting elk and noticed a cougar had stalked him within 10yards! His yelling didnt put the 120lb female cat off and she closed the gap to 5 yards - this is when he decided that was close enough and let an arrow go. Drove it between the eyes! Yikes! I have noticed a sharp increase here in BC of the number of cougar encounters, seems Alberta may be the same. Be aware of your surrounding guys and girls we are not the only 'hunters' out there eh?!

Pics where from cell phone, since the CO was rightly called to the scene and he had no time for other pics.

Yeah.  I had one a couple years ago come in to 5 yards as well.  For whatever reason, I never felt threatened (perhaps the loaded 300 on his forehead gave me comfort  ;D) but he did finally take off after about 5 minutes when my floow hunter could be heard walking through the forest.  That day started the quest to get the one you see in my profile pic.  Planning on getting a few more before I am done as well.
