Couple More Days.
« on: October 28, 2013, 07:15:42 PM »
Well people just a couple more days and she's on.. I will be off work on the 3rd then a course in Nisku the 4 - 6 then pretty much open until the end of the month,, courses again from the 19 -22nd so that leaves a few pretty good days. I am hoping for at least 12 uninterrupted days afield.

The quest is once more about to begin !! Read on line yesterday that according to the moon phases the peak rut may be a little late this year, they are predicting it around the 3rd week of Nov..

We are leaving Friday morning for 10 days back to our annual camp.
I am happy we got a bit of a freeze up this week.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

One bull moose tag and then chasing the WT bucks like you.  We are setting up the wall tent camp again for sure.
Stay patient my friend and hold out for that big one.

My buddy Jesse got a bit of a head start on us last weekend. Nice little meat buck:
He can't make it up to camp with us this year so he took a buck on their property out west.

Some of the meat bucks going around here aren’t that bad…  I have had a few meat bucks where I had to threaten if my picture was taken there would be a broken camera.

Looking forward to it.  Got my hunting partner back (Dad).  The folks just moved back from Nova Scotia and have bought a house so they are buys bonding with my 2 year old boy. Hopefully I will be able to get out for a few days with Dad in Nov.  Good Luck out there everyone.

It's funny you know,, I can start to hunt deer with a rifle the start of Sept but for some reason it just doesn't feel right.. I mean,, what would a guy do if he shot one the middle of Sept,, what would you do come Nov,, man that's a long go until next year. I mean don't get me wrong if I came across a true pig I don't care what time of the hunting season it was,, it would go down if I had the chance.

My buddy Jesse got a bit of a head start on us last weekend. Nice little meat buck:
He can't make it up to camp with us this year so he took a buck on their property out west.

Nice to see a hunter with the smile of success instead of a blacked out face.

A "trophy hunter" might call that a "cull buck" as he may not have had the potential to grow a truly high scoring rack.
A "novice hunter" might call it a "Nice buck" as to some it may be by far their biggest buck.
A "meat hunter" might call it a "Meat buck" and taken so early in the season it would be fine fat venison.

Any time a hunter decides to pull the trigger and is happy with the deer they take, I am happy for their success.

Recently a friend was out with his daughter.  They had two little bucks walk out, a little bitty spike with 2" spikes that would be classified as an "antlerless" deer and a lille fork horn buck (antlered deer).  She chose to shoot the antlerless buck and use a supplemental tag and save her buck tag for later.

Like walleye said, It has been hunting season for some time but to me November and snow on the ground are big ingredients of my deer hunting.
Each year i tell myself that I should at least shoot one supplemental deer to put some meat in the freezer so I can hunt the rest of the season with no pressure to harvest something.  But I just never do.  I was with mu daughter when shetook a doe a few weeks back and that was rewarding for both of us.

Off to Smith/Hondo today and looking for my calf moose tomorrow.
