Deer hunting pics from last year
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:45:32 AM »
Well , I didn't get out more than a couple days last year.  I did some trapping and was quite honest burnt out after a big year guiding.  My oldest boy got his first license though so I took him out.  He did real good and got himself a couple does and a buck in the 2 days that we skipped school.  I also took my dad and bro in law with me.  Dad got a nice 154 inch buck and my bro in law got a small spiker and some does.   I got to play guide and didn't see anything worth shooting.

Here is Jacobs first buck

That's awesome Nube.  Setting the standards pretty high for his first buck though!  LOL

A big Congrats to Jacob!

Congrats to your boy on a great buck.  Not to many shoot a first one like that.

Gotta say nube judging by your pics in the past you sure seem to know how to get it done for whitetails and sheep as well for that matter .  Any tips you feel like sharing won't be falling on deaf ears :)

Drive fast in primetime and roll the windows down fast when needs be.  lol
It's called horseshoes buddy!  If I could figure out how to kill a monster mule deer now then I might feel special.  I can't seem to kill one over 190 yet.  Haven't tried a ton but I don't have much luck with the big boys

Stout buck, he carries his mass all the way out on all the tines.
Good stuff, Nube.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

A kids first deer is always memorable, and a trophy no matter what, but a good buck like that sure helps seal the deal! Nicely done!

Got him a 7mm08.  Was going to load some 120gr shells but didn't have time.  Was worried cause all they had in the store was 150gr's but the kid didn't mind at all.  I think it will bea  good little gun for him.  I put a tripod on it and he does just fine at things under 150 yards which is all he needs

The 7mm-08 is a sweet round.Wifey had one years ago and she was really good with it at the range and then....

Buck fever hit her hard and that was the end of her hunting.lol ;D

Yup,she pulled up on a nice buck and that was that, she couldn't pull the trigger.

I know this thread is a few months old but it is never to late to praise someone on a job well done on a good hunt. Your son done very well for his first hunt. 5x5....could be a 6x5 since there is a split brow tine.  He at least squeezed the trigger.

I remember a hunt back in about 1984 & I saw this nice rack Mule Deer buck about 800 yards up on this hill top. I crawled on my hands & knees to get within 50 yards of this buck & I watched him for a bit. He was 5x5 (looked to be about a 175). Anyhow I had amble time to squeeze the trigger but I just watched him & then I got busted & he ran a bit & stopped & gave a nice broad side view when a doe walk beside him & took my chance away of getting a shot away. Oh & from that day forth I set out to learn as much as I can on getting close to animals like deer, moose, & elk.
