Deer Hunting Trip
« on: November 22, 2012, 10:55:15 AM »
Spent a week up north, saw a fair amount of deer, but not many shooters. Tried out the Samurai it went places that amazed me. Did lots of walking, rattling, sitting. My cousin managed to take a pretty decent 6 x 4 buck we went down a line and rattled back there for about an hour and rattled one small buck, we were leaving and this guy was running alongside the Samurai chasing a doe, he doubled back and my cousin walked back down the line and he was standing 25 yards in the bush.

I was pretty disappointed with the lack of mature bucks. There has been a lot of cougar sitings in the area this year, word is SRD quietly relocated a pile of cougars in the area the past couple of years as people have been seeing them in their yards, on trailcams, etc. Apparently they were released to help control booming deer populations, of course nothing was said about it being done. The mature bucks are easy targets after the rut.

Anyway hoping to get out for the last few days out west of Red Deer maybe and get back in off the roads. Here are a couple photos including a buck that another buddy took about a week ago.

Nothing wrong with that buck. There is a shortage of big bucks in our area too. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a doe season for a year or two and let them grow some....just my thoughts.
