Junior Sheepguides Team Up On An Elk!
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:44:22 PM »
Well my boys and I got away for an evening of hunting so we headed to a spot we seen elk this summer. We got to a high vantage point and started glassing. After a few minutes we spotted 8 cows, then the youngest boy noticed another elk coming from about a mile away up the ridge. I got the spotter on him and seen he was for sure a legal bull and was working his way down towards the cows. We couldnt make a play at thye elk from where we were at so we headed around the head of the valley and made a two hour stalk ending us at 200yrds. My oldest son and I were both able to then put a bullet in the bull putting him down for the count! We werent able to get him out last nigh so we came home and got more packs and the Wife and headed back in this morning and butchered him up deboning his front sholders and completly field dressing him via gutless method. We then loaded Brylee(12) with the head and horns, Braedy(10) with the back straps and tenderloins, My wife with the deboned fronts and me with both complete hinds. We then started the final 1.5 miles to the truck through some rugged terrain. Was another awesome hunt with my boys and then had the great help from the wife today. Hope the pics show the great trip!

Cooked some elk over the fire.

I hunt sheep to see over the next mountain not to measure the next trophy!

Fantastic day. Great to see someone packing out a head properly. I am amazed when I see a guy packing horns up.
