Moose Down!!!

Well that was a short moose hunting trip..only one night.

Day one: Seen 10 deer but everyone was a doe.Also seen a cow and calf moose but junior had a bull draw.

Then just before dark we spotted a young bull but he gave us the slip....bummer.

Day two: Got up at the crack of dark and waited for light so we could go back to where we seen the young bull the night before.

Then just 30 minutes after legal shooting light we spotted this bull.No he's not a huge one but when it takes you 4-5 years to draw a bull tag (353) well you kinda have to take what comes your way,right?

Anyways junior made a great 125 yard offhand shot and took out both lungs.moose was punch drunk but still trying to walk away.He didn't get far after junior gave him a second shot to the back off the head tho. ;)
And as an added bonus we were able to drive the truck right up to him,gotta love that. :)

So that's it for this years moose but the good news is that we can now set up elk camp in 438...woohoo  ;D

I knew you guys would get a moose.

With all the negative talk about 353, mostly just a bunch of bla bla bla...
Moose are there , just have to hunt them like you guys did.
It is supposed to start raining like mad up there starting tonite so good you got him early!

What do you mean he's not a big bull,, he's a dandy sonny. Nice early season bull,, going to be a gooder. Looks like a nice clean place to drop one to. Got to love the easy ones they don't come often. I like the looks of the nice clean quarter sitting there to nice job.

Congratulations, that's a great looking moose and taking care of the meat as well.

Thanks guys...and Axeman I don't think 353 is a bad place to hunt moose.Hell in the last five years we had 3 draws there and the longest it took us to fill a tag was 4 days..

2010...junior drew a cow tag...filled on the second day
2012..I drew a bull tag...filled in fourth day..
2014...junior drew a bull tag and filled on the second day.

I'm hoping to draw a cow tag there next year.

And walleyes I just said he wasn't huge because of the huge rack pics you guys were posing.lol

But I'm a lot like you,,antlers don't mean much to me,sure a big rack looks nice but you can't eat the darn things. ;)

It's about spending quality time with sons and having some great meat to take home.. ;)

Sonny, 353 was the best for moose for years.
I was just referring to all the negative talk on other forums on how it had been decimated with all the tags SRD has been issuing there.
353 is moose country no doubt and you are proving that again.
