New Bow for Africa??
« on: February 04, 2014, 08:36:05 AM »
So I have booked a plains game hunt for Namibia in August of this year and am looking to pick up a new bow for the hunt.  For the hunt the bow needs to deliver 65 ft/lbs of Kinetic energy for the larger plains games (apparently its the law in Namibia).  My current set up(60# bow with 400 grain arrows at 273 fps) delivers 62 ft/lbs of KE and is more than enough to properly skewer an elk or moose but isn't quite legal for there.  Anyway, it doesn't take much to talk me into new equipment anyway so I am looking at a 70# 340 Destroyer or 350 Destroyer or the new Darton 3814. Does anybody have any experience with these bows or what are you shooting now?

Ended up with a new 70# Bowtech Destroyer 340.  Great shooter.  Using a 445 grain Carbon Express 350 Piledriver and getting 291 fps out of that setup.  delivering a bone crushing 82 ft/lbs of KE.  LOL   should get the job done!!

Well, I have continued to play with these bows.  I have a new set of strings on order for the Destroyer 350 but I have been loving the 340.  Took it to the MOAS in Red Deer and ended up taking 3rd place in the MBR class with a 445 grain arrow.  Its amazing how improved the accuracy is on a high FOC arrow.

The CE piledrivers have a 44 grain insert that, combined with the 100 grain point puts 30% of the arrow weight at the tip getting the FOC to about 16%.  I am starting to think its a better trade off than the higher speeds that many think are necessary for the 3D.
