New Hunter
« on: May 11, 2013, 11:54:25 AM »
Well my 12 year old daughter just passed her hunting training course yesterday. This morning at breakfast she asked if she could go bear hunting with me next week. I got a little stink eye from the wife but she opened up to the idea after a few minutes. My wife's first animal with a bow was a bear, always a great way to introduce a child/new hunter to their first archery kill.

I love it!! I think I am about to transform from hunter to chief guide, cook, gutter for a couple enthusiastic kids for the next 10 years or so!! The 9 year old is ready to go as well but he has to be 12 in Alberta. Maybe try somewhere in the states with him this fall.

Its the best guiding a guy could do,, there is no amount of money one could be paid that would reward you as much as guiding/hunting with your own children. I honestly have no urge to hunt with anyone else other than my boys.. I have waited a long time to get to this point having all 3 boys very well acustomed to all hunts. By far the best hunters I have shared a camp with are my sons.

You will enjoy every minute of it weste,, and best of luck to your daughter I am sure she is going to make a great hunter.

Thanks guys. She is pretty gung Ho to go, I have her shooting off the back deck today to get used to a tree stand scenario and she did great with that. It's looking good for a great long weekend with my daughter bowhunting.

We just did some low light shooting off the deck into a javelina target at 20 yards. Yogi might be in trouble.

That's awesome to see Weste, looks like nothing holding her back.  Preparation is done only thing left to conquer is the nerves when the time comes.

I am with you Jimmy!!  I am saving my mule deer draw for a couple years for when my son turns 12.  I will partner with him as the draw takes about 4 years here in Lethbridge.  He wants to hunt with a rifle so I figure a mule deer on the prairies would be a great place for him to start.  I have a couple places where I can get him a shot inside 100 yards.  I just built him a .243 and put it all in junior lengths and started building some "recoil sensitive" loads.  We are planning to start trying the gun this summer.
