No Annual Moose Hunt This Year.
« on: September 24, 2014, 12:04:22 AM »
Well it's official the boys and I won't be doing our annual moose hunt this year. That's a first for many years, I have only missed 3 falls in 35 years. It just didn't work out this year. I had a pretty slow summer for work. I was not happy with the people I was working with in the last company I was working for and I left in the spring. It took a while for me to get on with a decent company so come this fall I am really not in a position to ask for additional time off. And the time off I have coming up misses any decent calling times and the boys don't feel like heading up late. So it looks like we are going to take our chances and bow hunt for moose around home for a couple weeks until rifle season opens. If we get one we do if not we will make do with a couple extra deer I guess. What bothers me the most is if you guys remember we cashed in on one of the boys priority 6 moose tags this fall and now it's not to be,, what a waste of a tag it truly is.

There are a few behind our place along the river and a few behind the oldest boys as well so who knows maybe we get lucky and bring one into bow range.

Terry, that is truly sad.  :(
I feel for you man.  I know you have that moose hunt tradition embedded in your soul.  It is a special time spent in the bush, living out of a wall tent with family and friends.

We are in the same boat this year too.  No one in my small hunting group has a moose draw this year for the first time in many years.  :'(
As you know, I am a moose hunter in my heart of hearts just like you.  Sheep hunters go on about how loyal they are to that hunt, but I know for a fact that we have moose hunt blood that is likely as strong or stronger than that.

I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

That sucks Terry.  Hopefully you can get on some moose in the bow zone.  I have no draw this year so I am hoping to fill my moose tag in the Edmonton Bow Zone. I had a moose at 15 yards that has my blood boiling unfortunately it was in 336 which I have no tag for.  Best of luck and hopefully you can fill a moose tag with your bow.

Too bad Terry!!!  It always a good trip to the bush, even to just sit and watch what is going on while you call.  The fellowship and manure that gets spread is hard to beat, even with a big stick.  Just have the boys practice calling from your back deck.  It should bring them right up to the shop waiting to be hung. ;)
