Thanks for all those sheep pictures, it's just awesome!!!! I'm leaving in a month and a half with my brother for our stone sheep and goat hunt in northern BC, can't wait and this year I'm first shooter since I moved to BC this winter.  Every sheep pictures I see lately just add fuel to my sheep hunting mood, not that I need it anyway.

Best of luck to all of you going sheep hunting and remember to enjoy the moment it doesn't get better up there!

Your a lucky Man. Stones would be my #1 pick of all Big Game animals to hunt. So to get BC residency and be able to hunt them is 6 months ??
When we hunted Caribou in Cassiars the BC hosts had Stone Tags but no Rams big enough were  spotted.

If you had the 35-40K to hunt stones would you do that or Marco Polo rams?  Myself would rather do the Marco polo.  More of an experience is what I think.

Personaly if i had the cash marco polo is a long ways from the top of my list of sheep or animals period to kill.
I hunt sheep to see over the next mountain not to measure the next trophy!

The experience of the Marco Polo would be amazing, but if I only had the chance to do ONE in my life, it would be the Stone's I think.

Then again, if I had that much, I'd move to BC, kill a Stone, and then pay for the Marco Polo hunt!

WOW, surprised.  You guys must not have had the chance to hunt in another country yet?  I love to travel and hunt at the same time.  I love all of those sheep in other countries and would do a hunt for then way before a stone myself.  I will kill my Desert sheep soon and then unless my Stocks or other busines deals go well I am not even looking at a Stone yet.  To many other critters to kill first.
Sheep and Rack, if you ahd the money to do any hunt right now what would it be?

Well if I had the cash for one hunt my first hunt would be a Stone. Hunted them more than anything and love the country they live so thats a no brainer for me.
If we are sticking to sheep my priorities would go like this if money was no option,

1. Kamchatka Snow Sheep(life long dream)
2. Stone
3. Dall
4. Desert
5. Chinese Blue Sheep
6. Trancapian Urial ( think they are cool looking critters)

From there I might look into the Argali's but even then my first Argali probably wouldnt be the Marco Polo.

If I had the money, I'd probably prioritize my hunts like this....

1. Mountain Grizz
2. Stone's Sheep
3. Dall's Sheep
4. New Zealand Tahr/Chamois
5. Ibex and Marco Polo
6. Mountain Caribou
7. Africa Plains/Dangerous Game
8. Mountain Goat

I love to travel and would love to travel and hunt a lot, but those are my list of top species I can think of off the top of my head.

I never knew you had wanted Africa Rack.  I have my hunt next year in Zim and then plan on going back a year or 2 after that for a few of the last species of plainsgame I want.  I plan on taking a group or 2 of guys over and hunting different camps as well for a fun time with friends.  After next year I plan to start putting it together.  I have 3 guys commited already Let me know if you want to come.  The more guys going over the more fun.  Maybe hunt with 4-6 guys in each camp and possibly swap areas that have different species part way through the hunt.  I think it would be a blast.  Start saving your money ;D

Yep one day I'd like to go, and wife would like to go as well.

I see New Zealand as one that I'd like to save up for first though, for some reason it just has more of a 'pull' for me, and I cant say why.  Though the Africa stuff sure looks fun and either New Zealand or Africa would be a fun trip with the wife.

Yep after 6 months of official residency, from the date on your driver’s license and/or health care application is sent, you can transfer your hunting license with the proper paper work.  I already have the papers at home and I was assured at the registry office if it was good enough.  I don’t want any surprise in a month when I go transfer my hunting license.

Nube

If I had that money to hunt sheep I’d go for an Asian sheep for sure too since a guy can move to BC and then hunt 4 species of sheep plus mountain goat, mountain caribou, grizzly, shiras moose, Roosevelt elk.  That’s why I moved to BC and the work in North East BC is as good as in Alberta.

For the discussion about our game list to hunt, well I moved to BC for all the extra game available.  That will keep me busy enough for the next years to come, I have so many mountain hunting adventures in the line up, and I’d like to hunt the desert sheep one day and I’ll see for Asian sheep when I’m forty plus.  A month and a half before I leave and it’s all I think about 20 times a day, I learned so much last year and this year will be much better.  I just hope with all the rain we’re having in the north it won’t affect my access to my destination, still lots of time for the water to drain away.

Nice pics all!  8)

Wild, why did you have sheep head in the creek. Anything to do with getting rid of the flesh? I have an elk head that has been lying around here for a couple of years (most of skin still intact) and wanted to do a euro mount. I was going to tie a rope on it and throw it in the beaver pond down back. I know most of you guys boil it off but looking for an easier way. Think it will work?

Sheep in the creek was just a neat pic, soaking the hide off the skull should work fine.
Boiling leaves stains on the antlers
Stones opening Aug 1st, we are headed up sept 2nd, in for two weeks of sheep, caribou
and griz with moose tag for a backup if all else fails

Hey Tuc...I was given a buffalo head and I searched the internet and came up with this....I buried it in the ground with the horns exposed and left it for a year....Dug it up, washed it and it was cleaned....My neighbor suggested that I wipe it with a rag soaked in bleach then put it in the sun light to get to the euro look but I liked the archeology look...
Treat each day as your last; one day you will be right.

Great pics Skinnydipper!!

Thats an awesome looking ram you've got there as well!!  Details?

Rack,

Sorry to have missed this question and just noticed it while re-reading this post. I just missed it, not trying to avoid it.

The time, I believe 1990. It was opening day. Camped at 7000' with both bows and rifles (back in the day elk was still general and open the same time as rifle sheep). Woke up opening day and we were fogged right in, couldn't see 20ft., so we stayed in the tent until around 11 and just couldn't take it anymore. At that point the low cloud was kind of moving in and out a wee bit. We started the 1000' trek to the top of the ridge separating the two river systems we were hunting. On the way through the scrub up to tree line, my friend took an opportunity to gaze back towards the tent and to his shock there were two rams bedded only about a hundred yards from it. Caught with our pants down we decided to wait until the clouds moved in an began our descent and stock. At some point the rams decided to start feeding and moved to within 40 yards of the tent and at this point we were within ~150 yards of them on the opposing slope. Since my friend had spotted the rams first he was going to be the first gunner. With a moment to evaluate the rams we deduced that the one was most definitely legal and the other was borderline. Wisdom kicked in and we decided to focus only on the big one to avoid the risk of losing him to greed of having both. My friend was shooting a beautiful Sako 300 Win mag at the time with a muzzle break and set the crosshairs on the beast and touched off. To out amazement, the rams bolted, seemingly unscathed, and ran down through the small valley we had just crossed and proceeded up their escape route. The escape route was the one we were sitting on and moments later the rams both came into view and passed within 10 yards of us. My friend managed to compose what seemed like nothing more than a hip shot and put the glorious ram down, with us standing in amazement. Apparently the shot from the muzzle-breaked rifle must have sounded like it came from a different direction and spooked the rams right toward us. Amateurs at the time, we prepped the animal for the long trip back to the truck, leaving all the bones in and stopping by the camp to take some equipment down too. With less than cadillac backpacks, that trip really cut deep canyons into the shoulders. It may have left a scar on my memory!
