Once again congrats to all the guy's who filled their tags. My last day found me in the ground blind for the morning with my rattling antlers. I was hoping to convince one the big boys I passed up earlier in the week to come out one more time but no such luck. At noon I had a quick bite and went to the stand I saw the cougar the day before. I was pleased to see that the little button buck made it through the night. As he passed by for some reason I was expecting the cougar to jump out again but he quietly disappeared. At around 3:20 I caught a tan body slink through the thick poplars to my left. It was a buck maybe 3 1/2 yrs old sporting a 5x5 frame with split brows. I flipped the safety off and placed my cross hairs on his vitals. Then I took another look at his rack through my scope and decided to pass on him. With meat already in the freezer I told myself if he wasn't going to the taxi. I wasn't going to pull the trigger. I flipped my safety back on and started fumbling for my camera. The camera strap was wrapped around the lanyard of my grunt tube and as I pulled my camera up out of my coat my deer grunts ribbed plastic caught my coat zipper . It didn't take long for the 140ish buck to figure out something wasn't right and disappear back into the black spruce he came from. This is the first time in about 11 years I'll eat my white tail tag, maybe with one regret that I should have hammered the buck I posted a pic of earlier. I'll be in that blind next year on Nov. 24 with rattling antlers in hand hoping for repeat appearance.
