Old Bull
« on: October 27, 2015, 10:11:11 AM »
On the morning of Oct 25 2015 I was able to harvest my oldest, most mature and best bull to date. Not much of a story here; I seen the elk in a field early in the morning and got setup. Not long after we could tell that they were going to go a different direction so I relocated to a new spot. There was about 200 head in the group and they were filtering past me between 30 and 50 yards. I came to full draw but had to wait for cows/calves to clear in front and behind the bull. Once they had cleared I put my 50 pin on him and shot. Right away I saw the arrow hit and blood come out and when he turned to run I seen blood coming out the off side. He ran away and made it about 75 yards before he fell to the ground.
Looking for the big bull!!!

Thanks for the kind words. A little more info for you all. While dressing the bull we found a 1/2 in cut across his back foot where the hoof meets the hide; it was healed. Last year my wife shot at this bull and hit a twig sending the arrow into his back hoof. Although we don't know for certain that it was the same bull i don't know what else would cause a linear cut across his back foot that deep. After reviewing the video the bull that she hit in the foot had the same longer G1 than the G2 that my bull has. I then missed the bull that she hit at 17 yards when I got overly excited. Also when the butcher was doing his thing he found an old broad head in the fin of his vertebra that had calcified. This old boy must had nine lives but he ran out of them on the morning of Oct 25
