Elk in my area are still going strong. Hopefully I can close the deal this weekend.

Closing the deal is always the hardest part.

Now I'm a coward now Sheepguide?  WOW!  I'm not a coward at all.  I am just tired of listening to your crap and you are the only reason I do not post on this forum anymore.  Why would I.  Look at all of the crap you have started since day one.  It's draining even talking to you.  You think everyone else in this world has less experience than you and you know it all.  I got nothing to prove to you and it wouldn't be worth my efforts if I cared.  I have piles of stuff to share including one of the best trips of my life that I just went on and I am thinking why would I bother to share when it might turn out to be a thread like this.  Whether you believe the story Dale tells is true or not it's the way you come across that pushes people away.  Guess I will go coward back in my hole now again.  Good luck to the rest of you guys on the forum that have some sense in you.  Hope it is a good season for you.

Been out for elk 3 days now man it's been warm they sure aren't moving. Been trying to stay close to water but haven't heard anything calling I'm thinking they are laying pretty low and must be near the end of the rut.
Warm over here too. The elk are laying low and coming out well after dark. I've been hunting hard for the last week and not a sniff. It's been so hot here I'm not even sure there was a rut, I've started listening every night from Sept 1st on and not a sound of any bulls hollering. Just a weid year for elk hunting...

They are rutting just being very quiet this year in my area as well.  Running into them quite a bit but they just aint talking much.   Only elk that have been replying to me are cows.

Was out tonight on a rushed after work hunt at a spot that I haven't seen an elk in all year.  Lo and behold a bull has a bunch of cows on the run coming right down the cutline at me.  Didn't even have a friggin arrow knocked and one of the cows saw me trying to chamber one and they all  put the brakes on.  A couple cows started making there way towards the bush so I squeezed the cow call in my pocket and they all stopped and looked at me.

So I'm sittin there with 5 cows and a bull 20 yards away.  There is a few cows looking right at me and a couple more cows and a bull that can't see me behind the big dead stump I'm hiding behind.  I peak around the stump and the bull is looking my way.  I wait 10 seconds and peak again he's not.  Draw and peak again, dang he's turned around now.  No big deal I'll get him when he follows the cows that are slowly starting to walk into the bush again.  Instead of walking he bolts after them and I'm SOL.  Haven't quiet cussed like that in a while. :)  Second time this year I've been oh so close to deflating one but just not happening yet.  Guess that's why it's called hunting and not shooting.

hey, how do you post video on here?? And we saw quite a few elk where we were on the w/e. Could have shot 4 bulls, but did not see any cows at close range at all! I have video of one we called in to 40 yards, thought it would be cool to post :)

I could care less about most of the crap you have said but there are a few things here that kinda stink!

i ve taken salt when im on horseback....but never backpacking.  that craps heavy, and i dont like carrying anything unneccessary.  You are just plain STUPID!! Do you not think that something might happen and add a few days to get back out with a sheep if you had shot one. Not very good planning in my books.

i have yet to see one even run away.  them things make mule deer look pretty smart the way they just stand there.
This tells me you haven't seen much sheep hunting!!! HAHA.  How STUPID some can be. You make yourself look like a real ass with a comment like that...HAHA

ive seen likely half a dozen rams in kcountry when i was young that were legal....but i never had the need to kill one until the talk of shutting it down. im pretty sure if i hadnt killed one already there would have been no discussion and we would have found a way....but that wasnt the case.   So what about your buddy! Unless I misread something he hasn't shot one. So you wouldn't help him but if YOU hadn't shot one it would have been a different story.....????  Nice guy

So to sum things up it would seem to me that you never will go back for a second chance at these sheep because after all they are just stupid animals that just stand there and your to smart to shot dumb animals right.
If you want to run with the pack you can't piss like a pup.

No offense wild meat but I don't think there is any required amount of posts needed prior to voicing ones opinion here.
As well the points are very valid!!!

Ovis has some very valid points indeed.

IMO, anyone trying to derail this thread talking about weather and elk are the ones you should be pointing fingers at.

The only person who can put a stop to this is the guy who started it by answering people's questions, or risk losing what little creditability he may have had.

And I

Had asked and stated some very strong questions and arguments......

Here is a question Sonny and the rest of you that complain so much on how guys post? Why when a thread derails or goes a route you dislike in your eyes do you come back to it every chance you get(1200+ reads kinda suggests a few of you have been back a few times LOL)? Every time you log in you look for that particular thread to see whats being said next. If people dont like a thread or the comments maybe everyone should just oh how do you guys all put it....  "Just Walk Away and Let It Lie" but nope your all just another kid in the sandbox. Just like highschool kids when there is a fight. Very few want to be in it but lots that love to watch with a few coaxing to keep it going!
There have been lots of valid points made and a few not so valid. And that cant be changed the thread has gone the way it has gone, its not going to reverse to where everyone is happy and can have tea and crumpets together. And now a few are looking for questions they may have or possibly to concerns they may have. Its up to them if they wish to pursue these topics. Ive personaly talked to Dale over this topic and I beleive we understand where each other is comming from. Will we disagree in the future and discuse things again? Im sure we will . Its just how thing are.
So posting some video, off topic comments or chiming in every 10 post to say how childish guys are isnt helping one bit.
