Put the hurt on them if you can, wound them if you have to

Not sure about that far north but they are quite common in the south of the province.

I don't think they are "common" anywhere in Alberta (depends on ones definition of common) but they are on the increase.

They are a serious predator on ground nesting birds and will hurt our upland birds and waterfowl.  I would shoot on sight and if I knew of an area that had some I would try and hunt and trap them out of existence.

I would never try and wound anything on purpose.

They are very common in southern ab. They are nocturnal, so most only see signs of them and assume its something else.

Do you have any idea what shoot to wound means?
If you did you would understand the tongue and cheek it applies.

A funny story from the F&W enforcement guys out of Rocky.

They went out to the garbage bin at a gas plant out west to catch a racoon.  The one fellow had a long snare pole and was reaching down to get the critter and asked the other fellow to get his camera ready for a photo opp. of the racoon being held in the air on the pole.

The racoon went crazy and was fighting and hissing and growling on the end of the pole as he was being hoisted up and the fellow holding the pole looked to the other guy to have his picture taken but the other guy had his camera in one hand and his other hand on his handgun.

One theory as to how the racoon got there was it had got on a train somewhere and got off at the gas plant.

We see them around the south quite regularly.  I have even whacked a few with my bow while waiting for a deer to walk by.  Anyway they look good with an arrow shish kabob!
