Successful season
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:07:26 PM »

Well what is a successful season anyway?

I was there when my daughter shot a white-tail doe.
I sent my son to one of my good spots and he killed a doe and a buck from the same chair in about 1/2 hour.
I shot a doe.

So far, so good.

After turning down a couple of small bucks, this evening I say a really good buck.  The best I have seen this season.  He was with in 100 yards of the spot I shot a B&C buck some years back.  I have two days left to try and get him.  If I do get him that would be great but I believe I have had a very successful season this year.

THE LAST DAY  The sun rise this morning was just about all I needed to call it a good day.  Then I saw a Goshawk swoop by and later on a marten came by.  Maybe hunting for a shrew like the one I saw and heard around my blind a couple times.  Saw two bald eagles.

A small group of local hunters gets together for "Season's End Lunch" at a location near where we all hunt.  We burn some smokies and tell stories about our experience for this season.  Then those who have tags left, separate to hunt for the last few hours.  There is always a bit of melancholy as the sun sets this day.

"There is no tomorrow, but there is always next year!"
