The bucks are tearing it up!
« on: November 06, 2013, 09:09:31 AM »

I was looking for a calf moose but could not ignore all the white-tail buck sign.
I hope the buck made a call to "First Call" to check for buried utilities before excavating this big scrape.  I love to see big rubs on alder trees.

These picts were taken...north of Edmonton...  I could tell you exactly where but then...you know the rest.

I am now back home near Rocky and some friends who have been hunting around hear say they have seen very few scrapes.  But they have had success rattling bucks in.

Looking good. I'm heading north Friday and hope to see a few moving. They are scraping and even chasing down south here already. I'm down 5 pine tree's at the farm in the past week (big deal when you're near Lethbridge) and watched a young buck chasing does this afternoon out west. Hope it keeps heating up!

Yup they are getting active up here, marking their ground regularly now.. Jesse and I have a day planned on Friday going to hit some of our back out and dirty holes. See if any of them big boys are ready to defend their turf..

Time to go and talk to the animals again..

We saw lots of action in the Hinton area but unfortunately the bucks were all moving at night. Lots of overall pressure and illegal activity on the roads (shooting out windows, killing deer in the middle of the road, shooting after legal light) which may have had the deer hanging tighter than normal too. Saw more scrapes and rubs this year than we have since before the death winter (2010-11) but we didn't connect. Still great to be out there.
Back hunting down south now, watched a 150'' class whitetail chasing does all yesterday afternoon, he wouldn't cross a fence for us but the rut is on down here (Cardston area yesterday).
