Tur hunt
« on: January 04, 2013, 07:39:26 PM »
Booked my Tur hunt yesterday for October 2014.  It is still a ways away but I am pumped.  Got one guy from this site to commit as well and another possible to go as we'll.   I think it will be a blast.

Cool. I heard that Buckbrush might be going with you.

Exotic hunt in a far away land.  I would be pumped too.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

Buckbrush and Steve have said they are in for the hunt.  Got one other guy checking in with the wife as well.  If everyone commits to it we will have a blast with the crew we are going with.  It is always more fun going with good like minded guys.

Deerhunter, it is only for Tur.  I am not sure if there are Ibex in these mountains and I don't think there are.  I want to do Marco polo and ibex in 2015 I think and will be trying to get a few guys together for that as well.  I wish you were comming buddy but I think I got you hooked on Africa now and that is all you have on the brain now!!! lol

Weste, all I know is I am glad I am not a bowhunter like you.  I think if I was into bowhunting as much as you and tried to kill a Tur with a bow it would be a long haul!!!  Those mountains look pretty tough.  Check out a few video clips on youtube on Tur hunting.

This should be a great hunt in a lot of ways. A very exotic animal and a culture so different than ours. This hunt is one I wouldn't  consider at the top of my list of things to do but after doing a bit of reading an watching a few videos I've got to say, I'm pretty pumped. Nube worked out a great deal with the outfitter and it makes the hunt a lot more affordable. It would be great to get another forum member to join if anyone is interested. Would be nice to hunt with fellas a guy knows a bit.

I am not that bad with a gun either.  LOL  I am usually out of tags by the general season though.  LOL  I would love to come but I got some African Plains game on my mind for the next year!

The Marco Polo sounds very interesting though.

Watched a couple videos and it looks like some pretty harsh terrain from what I can see.   Is it a horseback hunt or all backpack?  How do you think it will compare to a mountain hunt in Alberta?

Good questions Shrubs.  I don't know if we will have horses help much or not to be honest.  There is no way they will get up the mountain.  You hunt at 10 000- 12 000 feet I believe and it is too rough for horses.  You mainly hike to the top and set up a base camp to hunt out of.  Compared to Alberta this will be rugged.  A lot of the time they do not let you climb down to get your trophy and they will get it for you.  Youtube has some great videos.  The fun and good news is that Gunslinger and I talked tonight earlier on and he said he is in and will be sending his deposit in early next week.  So as it sits right now we have Buckbrush, Steve, Gunslinger and Nube headed off to chase goat looking creatures on some real wild mountains!!!
I think with a crew like this we will for sure be in for a good time and I am sure we will have a few stories to tell.  The only worries I have are getting guns there and not falling down the mountain.  If I fall I don't think I will be telling any stories! :o

On a side not to this if anyone is up for a Marcopolo / Ibex hunt in 2015 and is interested please let me know.  I have plans for that next and need to put together a list of serious guys interested to do that.

Boy oh boy the Marcopolo/ Ibex hunt sure sounds tempting. I'm not sure if I can get the Warden on board with this but wouldn't mind getting a little more info on the hunt.

Good luck on the Tur hunt. Looks like a good bunch of guys on a cool hunt.

Are you taking a camera man along Nube to do any filming? Looking forward to your report next season!
