Who has bigger elk BC or Alta?? I know we get some whoppers over here, most alta elk I've seen pictures of are not all that impressive. [stir the pot]

Come on, belly up to the BAR and show us your most impressive examples of your provinces elk....big or small doesn't really matter, that wasn't the intent of this thread...show some elk pics. ;-)

Never hunted Elk much but I think overall BC has better elk.  We have some great bulls here but it is hard to get a decent area to be consistently putting out good bulls.

I know a couple guys in BC, they've got some monster elk in the east Kootney's. I think on average BC has bigger elk, but they also have a higher population than Alberta.

I would have to say that do to shear population B.C. should have us beat.. The numbers would have to dictate that I would think. As well I believe the largest Elk antlers in the world were found in a lake in B.C. or am I mistaken on that.

I've seen some pretty impressive bulls in the southeast corner (they still look out of place to me) but I recall hunting mule bucks several years ago behind Galloway and I saw a bachelor herd of the biggest elk I think I have ever seen. No doubt that both provinces have some big arse elk, but I would agree that B.C. should have the edge due to sheer numbers.

The antlers were found somewhere around Arrow Lake, just south of Revelstoke, I think they are #2 in the Boone & Crocket books.

In another life I was able to see a lot of elk in the elk valley of BC and at that time there were some crankers out there that were just not around in AB. But at the same time there was a bull mount in the Bull River Inn that was if memory serves just short of 390 but was shot near Pincher Creek not in BC. Plus these days the sanctuary boundary hunts around Suffield are beginning to look like they may be doing AB proud. With this wet spring the grass should be good for antler growth this year.

I stop at a taxidermy shop in Cranbrook about every other year and check the Bulls he has hanging in the rafters - they are shrinking. That being said I would give up a nut to get a crack at most of them.

There are some pigs coming out of pockets of Alberta.

My completely limited opinion would give Alberta the nod.

I think the last few years Alberta is the top spot for big bulls. As these prairie bulls increase in population, the next few are gonna be quite amazing. I know of a 6x6 that went over 390" and an 8x7 that went over 400" last fall. Both prairie bulls, and both quite a ways from Suffield

I can relate to you on that!.. I was back in there years ago and watched a 5 pt whose back tines scratched his ass when he bugled. I've taken a couple of young (2.5) yr old bulls out Sand Cr that had potential to be big, but I guess they never will be::)

For a bull over 300", BC is #1.

If you want a bull over 375", Alberta is the place to hunt right now.

Agreed.  The oppurtunity for the bull of  alifetime exists in some of the draws in Alberta but the best chance for a 300" bull exists in more places in BC.  The prairie bulls of Alberta have the best oppurtunity for a true trophy.

Yep like the others have said BC for sure out does Alberta for number of bulls taken in a year but from what ive seen Alberta tops BC when it comes to big 350"+ bulls taken each season. And when it comes to the 375"+ bulls Alberta far exceeds BC on what is published on forums and mags.. I know of at least 7 390"+ elk taken in alberta last fall(and a couple from places other than Suffield) but havent heard on many that size being taken in BC.

So to answer the OP question as to who has the bigger elk... Alberta without a doubt.

As a guide/Outfitter when I am not Filming, I have seen and guided hunters to some monsters in Alberta.
We found a match set of sheds 1000 yards from my camp this spring that given a spread of 48 inches, would stretch the scales @ 398 B&C gross. The guy holding the 8x7 set is 6ft 4 and 270 pounds. I also have trail cam pics of a couple bulls that would be a little bigger as well from the same area. The bull in the box of the truck gross scored 402 in 2005. His g1 and 2's are 31 inches. 59 inch main beams as well.
