I got drawn for mule buck in WMU 527
So we headed out there my partner and I on October 12.
I have the iHunter app on my iPhone and I downloaded the MD map of the area I planned to hunt on it. It works good as you get to see the ovelay on top of the actual map and you can see al the landowners names. Once you find a piece of land you're interested in, it's just a matter of getting permission, which is not that easy as I found out. I got lucky on the 5th phone call after being denied the 4 previous times.
On the 13th, at first light, I spotted this buck with 2 other smaller ones but on the quarter next to the one where I had permission so we just watched them for about 10 minutes before they vanished into the bush.
The morning after when we pulled in (in the dark) I spotted him fighting with another buck in the headlights of my truck and I had nowhere to go but straight forward and therefore chance to spook them as I had to drive my truck about 30 yards away from them.
I kept driving and told my partner that if it was meant to be, they were going to be there still at legal shooting light.
We drove for about 15 minutes and parked the truck and then started walking back towards them in the darkness. Took us about 20 minutes to walk back and it was now legal shooting time.
The smaller buck was gone and so was the big one but not far at all, the big one made it down to the bottom of a coulee where he probably planned to bed down for the day. He give me an easy broadside shot at about 80 yards. 1 shot in the boiler room and he piled up right there.
Ended up scoring 176 5/8" BC gross and only had 4 1/8" deduction so he nets 172 2/8"
I now have a bull moose tag for November in the area where I hunt whitetail and then I also have a bull elk tag for CFB Suffield in January so hopefully there's plenty more pictures to come...
Grand Slam here I come!... Hopeful thinking 😁

Which part of 527 did you have luck in? South side? I have an undersubscribed for this year and first time out.
