Who's hunting them and what are your secrets?

I have the dangdest luck
I see them once in awhile but always at the wrong time like when i have nothing more lethal than a 20 guage loaded with bird shot.

Ive been scouting about a bit round hinton saw some sign but with the thaw its hard to say how recent or clearly distinguish a lot of the tracks at all.

I have tried setting up in a cross wind using various calls over likely looking areas.... Driving stopping calling in hopes of bumping into a responsive group.

I suppose it might just be a matter of perseverence and timing but any pointers would be welcomed.

Pardon me but can I please have my country back?

Maddening eh?

I've had em shadow me all day before but never when I was in a position, time etc to shoot.
When you are... they get coy.

I think the thing I need to do is more recce and then to just keep banging away at it... less planning and more doing.

I work a 14/7 shift schedule so maybe I'll rough it for a few days instead of just day trips.

Whoa that's quite the video , shows it as it is. Wolves have always been the extra on a hunt and blown a few chances. Was guiding in the Grande Cache area and had a couple beautiful big blacks on the trail at 60 yards as I was riding back to camp to get a pack horse, slipped off the saddle and as I was pulling out the rifle the scope cap guards stuck in the scabbard and smacked free sending the wolves running. Couple days later calling elk a pack came in to the calls and the hunter cranked one with a 300 win mag, after a couple more shots at other wolves this Alpha gets up and books out ....they are tough !
We do need to get the numbers under control, not to many years ago rode and hunted the YAHA Tinda country and the valley moved with elk now you can't find one. In my favorite bow hunting moose country this year I called more wolves in than moose. Apparently according to the F&W the area will close next year cause the moose numbers are way down.
Rode through the Blackfoot grazing reserve this fall and once again wolves where everywhere and elk numbers way down. I heard the F&W wanted wolves taken out after they introduced them a couple years earlier.
Been out chasing coyotes and coming across lots of wolf sign, no luck yet but will keep trying and will post something if I find the secret to calling them in them in.

Spotted a pack in a large clearcut;  called them in using a fawn in distress call.  2 large adults and 3 pups (fall, pups were about the size of a small german shepard).
Came in hard and fast, adults hung up about 200 yds out;  pups wanted to come in bad.  Switch to a rabbit in distress and that got them moving again.

Only time I tried, and we spotted them before calling so not sure how it would work randomly, although I've called in coyote's at the farm using the fawn in distress call from great distances.  (mule does, too).
