Yukon Guides Convicted
« on: September 01, 2014, 05:35:21 PM »
The Whitehorse Daily Star just reported a couple of high profile hunting convictions involving Albertan and BC guides.

http://www.whitehorsestar.com/News/hunt-a-trainwreck-waiting-to-happen-crown
This one involved the wasting of game meat and aircraft related charges.
The guide was fined $15,000 and the client $11,500. 20 years of suspensions were also handed out.

http://whitehorsestar.com/News/fined-guide-truly-embarrassed-and-ashamed
This one involved an Alberta guide with a very recognizable name and a TV hunting celebrity status.
A dead grizzly bear and a caribou hunt resulted in convictions of illegal hunting and the guide plead guilty and was levied a fine of $10,000 and a 7 year guiding prohibition in the Yukon.

We can all form our own opinions on these convictions.  It is what it is and to me the wasting of meat is a huge one and I am glad these guys got slapped with big fines.  Any excuses about not being familiar with the hunting regulations by the outfitter, guides, or clients is really weak sauce. Hunting for profit is their job and with that comes some obvious responsibilities. The client who is spending $20K plus and is the one ultimately pulling the trigger should bare the same responsibility.

I have been to the Yukon a few times and the residents and the territorial government take conservation very seriously, more so than here.  Tourism, fishing, and hunting are their resource.

I don't know Pat, know his brother Brian through oilfield stuff, decent guy, likes to hunt. No one is above the law though, ignorance is no excuse.

I'm not the most inocent person in the world either but I will take ownership for what I do. Dont tell me Pat never knew the rules the guy does this way to much to not know. He just finnaly got caught doing some shady stuff. Be a man and take ownership of your actions.

Should be banned from huntng in Canada for 5 years not just the Yukon,, he's not from there anyways whats the big deal and its not like he needs it for a living the man is a toolpush and brings in 200g's a year. this is just a hobby for him. So now what,, he carries on hunting in A.B. like he did nothing wrong ?? and whats 10g's in fines for him,, peanuts,, water off a ducks back.

What ever..

I don't know him personally whatsoever so can only gauge him by what he has posted on the interweb and some tv stuff.  I guess as well a couple guys I know have worked with him and never said anything bad only that the mention of hunting will guarantee a pretty involved conversation.

I really don't feel like he's the type of guy that would blatantly try and break the rules, but maybe more the type that could really get a bit to fired up and maybe a bit to caught up in the moment.

He's going to pay his fine (without to much fuss it seems) and learn a pretty valuable lesson.  I don't think that he is one of the "bad guys."

I certainly don't think Pat is a bad character either and certainly no big poacher,, to me personally I don't think he did anything all that bad,,, but.. He did get caught doing something wrong,, don't play innocent pay and move on.

Your a real simple minded person aren't you. You don't even have the ability to disguise who you are,, no matter what name you sneak on here under we all know who it is.. What a moron.

Mods,, how long will we have to listen to this buffoon again..

Thats kind of the sad thing about this in the end. A lot of us were behind Pat you know, a good old Alberta workin boy that was out there gettin it done. I know I thought a lot of the guy,, and now what are we to think,, did he obtain all those animals legitimately ?? I mean maybe a lot more of us could have had a few more animals in our books if we didn't follow all the rules yah know,, I don't know what to think about it all. To bad this had to happen man..

Tried salt for my trail cams a couple years ago they don't like it around my place,, not sure why maybe cause there are to many farms around with blocks out.

Anything else you would like to know Justin.
