A quick note for members
« on: June 12, 2012, 08:44:59 AM »
We have had some grief here from time to time, like most forums I suppose. Arguments, disagreements etc.

When we started this place the purpose was to give people a little more freedom to post what they like, to create a place that is free from control by sponsors. For example if someone wants to come on here and post about their outdoors business, there is no issue with that, they don't have to be a sponsor to do so. Essentially it's not a place to make a bunch of money from for me, I have a pretty successful business in the oil and gas industry.

We are not ban happy here and the only real bans have been blatant, obvious trolls.

I want to be clear on something. I have invested a lot of my time into this, I have also invested some money, nothing huge really, but enough. Under no uncertain terms will I allow this place to fail because people are trolling, constantly confrontational or just plain ignorant.

This is an outdoors forum, that's what we are here to discuss, and yes, it's not the number one outdoors forum in Alberta, but when you come here you don't have to weed through threads like "what color socks do you prefer while hunting".

What I would ask is to try get along, even if you disagree, state why you disagree, back it up if you can, and leave it at that. With a board this size we shouldn't be having any problems getting along.

This is a general statement for everyone, I won't single people out, I see value in every member that comes to Alberta Sportsman.

Thank you.

The forum is great Paul and your time and effort are greatly appreciated. I know I can be a pain with a few discussions but right there, what you said that I high lighted is what usually sets me off.

Its fine for guys to disagree and many people are going to on this forum but if your going to openly disagree then like the bold writing says back it up. Saying someone is wrong or doesnt understand then walking away is how many confrontations start. If you arent in agreement with facts or ideas then say but be prepared to give facts and demonstartions to back what you say.
If someone post a pic of a live ram and says it legal dont just say no its not as so many people do. Show on the photo how you perceive the picture or at least give a bit of a written explanation. Just telling people they arent right because you say so doesnt fly. Many people when discussing things honestly feel they know the facts and beleive they know what there talking about so with out facts and explanations arent just going to give up what they beleive and think just because some internet forum guy said he was wrong. Back what you say up.

Many if not most confrontations can be resolved or avoided just as the thread that caused this rukas could have been with people sharing thier knowledge with facts and explanations. Disagreements will never be 100% gone on public forums but can end with alot better results if guys dont just use/do the because I said and I know motto!

Thanks again Paul and hope this post isnt out of line.

Sometimes you have to toss members out for the well being of the forum. You would be surprised how many folks will leave a forum because of name calling and confrontations. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism or argument as long as we use respect. Noone wants to read repetitive garbage.

i agree with that.  i fully agree that you should stand up and back your words.  i dont think that has been much of an issue.  almost everyone here has a bunch of outdoor experience and knows what they are talking about.  there have been very few blowhards, and the biggest problems have been removed.  its exceptionally nice to not have the token "devils advocate" type that have to argue everything just to be different.   we all know who them guys are.....
opinions are like sphincters......everyone has one, and they all stink!

I agree with everybody's post so far here. This is a good site and it only gets better by the members contributions. We all don't have to agree, just realise that everyone has an opinion. Great site and I appreciate it being here.
Dave.
