Getting A New Addition To The Household.
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:10:30 PM »
I feel more excited than a kid at Christmas lol..

A while back the wife and I decided we wanted a large dog for the yard. It won't be long and Sam will be on his own in a couple more years and with my job being away for long periods of time the wife just feels a little uneasy about being home alone. We deliberated for a long time and did a lot of research into different breads. With the grandchildren we have to be careful but yet wanted a loyal protector. A while back we decided on a German Sheperd. Then it was into looking at different breeders. With the help of our local Sheperd guy,(thx Tuc) we decided on a breeder. A couple days ago I put a deposit on a pup. We have 4th choice on a male ready for pick up around the middle of May.

The pups grandparents are straight out of Germany a couple years ago,, so that's kind of cool,, a true German sheperd not many generations removed.

The breeders site and our pups parents.. The wife already has his name picked out,, we anxiously await "Magnums" arrival.

Dang I am jealous Walleyes. I sure would just love to have a large dog. Just can't with the job I have. One day though, one day.

Good luck and have fun with the new pup.

Walleyes, Janzhaus has been around for awhile, they are reputable breeders with good bloodlines. You have made a GREAT choice. Post some pics when the little gipper finally arrives.

If I can offer you any advice at all, train him well and you will have one hellava dog and protector. The GS breed is loyal and fearless, they will protect you with their life. They love being around people and a part of the family. Involve them in family outings and expose them to your grand kids at an early age. There will come a day when your male German shepherd will suttly challenge you to see how far he can push, they are not stupid so be a strong pack leader at all times. If you have no skills at training them get yourself a good book (and I can recommend a few) or send them to a trainer. It will be money well spent....THEY have to be trained or you will run into behavioural problems.

Here are a few pics of my boys. (and gals)

Grizz at about 6 or 7 months

Only a pup here, Grizz is a GREAT swimmer and loves the water.

This is Timber. (deceased but I still miss him)

Some fine looking animals Tuc..

The wife and I are quite experienced dog owners so we don't feel getting a pup trained to our liking will be an issue. That's one of the issues we had with our last large dog,, I got him to late and just could not break his bad habits that were instilled in him by his previous owners. I had to give him away I just did not have the patients or time to deal with him anymore. This is one of the reasons we are going with a fresh pup again we want him started off right and also for the grand children. We have discussed it with the kids already and we will be exposing them to each other as much as possible..

Those are great looking dogs and I"m betting very smart. I really like the female with the black mask.
