Internet bullies/tough guys…
« on: May 02, 2013, 06:25:13 PM »

I don’t post much online. I like to read and contribute where I can but usually some one else has provided the answer or said what I would have so I generally leave it alone but I have had the occasional run in over the years and have received a few nasty/threatening emails or PMs. I didn’t reply, blocked the senders email or put them on an ignore list and the problem is gone but After reading about walleyes recent encounter and all the stories on the news the last while about online bullying got me wondering how often this sort of thing goes on and how far things go.

I’ve heard stories of guys having people show up at their house after an online argument what are these people thinking?

Have you been bullied on line how did you deal with it?
Has anyone here had things escalate to an actual physical confrontation?

I find this day and age anything is possible, it's a scary world out there. I've had a few confrontations over the years but nothing serious......IT'S THE INTERNET.......I wouldn't  let things get that far out of control. If someone showed up at my door that had sent me threatening emails, they would probably meet the cops. If the cops didn't pay attention, they would meet my two German shepherd dogs. In no way would I ever let my family or property be harrassed by some idiot......

Last resort, well, I won't mention that here.....

What I can't get over is how utterly brain dead these people are.. I mean they post their pictures up,, where they live and then they threaten people,, like really. They hide behind some alias on the net or on their email and they think they are hidden... This is not the 1960's it would take the cops about 15 min to find out who these people are. They own guns and have a PAL,, all that would be gone in a heart beat,, done !! Are they really that stupid ?? The police do not take this type of thing lightly now a days..

Anyone ever shows up and my door or if at any time I feel my life in danger,, there is NO question what would happen,, none..

I really wonder about some of them.  I envision either a 12 yr old, or a second year arts student as the usual culprit.  Maybe a reyrson prof, it's hard to discern between that and a 12 yr old.

Either that  or an ignattiaf, or a holland, I understand they both have a lot of time on their hands these days.   ;)

And what do you think of "internet bigots"?

bigot [ˈbɪgət]
n
a person who is intolerant of any ideas other than his or her own, esp on religion, politics, or race

What about "internet shit disturbers"?

shit disturber

— n
informal  ( Canadian ) a person who enjoys causing controversy or upsetting people

usage Although considered vulgar, this phrase is nonetheless commonly used and is generally not thought offensive enough to be considered taboo

At no point did Bruce say he was intolerant of anything.

LOL!  People never "say they are intolerant" they show it in what they say and do.

a 12 yr old, or a second year arts student as the usual culprit - See more at: http://albertasportsman.com/index.php?action=post;quote=26133;topic=3726.0#sthash.THYE0895.dpuf

This implies that all 12 year olds and second year arts students are misbehaviours.  Anytime you lump a group together and say "they are..." you are displaying prejudice.

Sometimes I think you legitimately want to contribute to the discussions in this forum but then you make posts that are obviously meant to be antagonistic. Anyway, Bruce put a smile at the end of his post and I took it as a 'tongue in cheek comment', you on the other hand, seem to always take every post to a different level. I feel sorry for you if you believe everyone always have negative intentions. Have fun with that.

Bruce posted something I thought was not appropriate and so I pointed out what I thought of what he said.  Or at least I posted a definition of "bigot" and asked what he and others thought about it.

And Weste I don't care what walleyes says, I don't think you are a troll.
