Did you ever want to post something but thought..nah..it's not thread worthy so you let it slide?

Well here is your chance to post what's on your mind without starting a new thread....just post random stuff.

I'll start..

50 plus years ago you would see these in construction zones to mark the way after dark.
Now we fill them with Citronella lamp oil to keep the skeeters down in the campsite. lol

So...this couldn't be more random, here we go.  The photo is one I took recently of the Edmonton Cabelas illuminated sign that faces north onto the Anthony Henday. The sign announces to many an avid outdoors-person that we are fortunate enough ( In my humble opinion) to have such a store here. As you can clearly see, a couple letters have burnt out, no biggie, unless you look at the fact that it has been this way for a minimum of 2 months! Not cool I say. It would seem to me that such a great company in it's mere infancy in our amazing country would want to show better pride of ownership. It is wrong that this is bugging the crap out of me?? Maybe...I dunno. Just curious what y'all thought. I'll shut up now.

They could spool er up and head back south of the border any day wouldn't bother me in the least.. Don't think I have spent but a couple hundred there since they came around and that's just because I won a gift card to the store,, otherwise I just go in to price check now and again..

Genealogy.

Couple weeks ago out of the blue my mother showed up with some pics for me that she found in my grandmothers place when she passed.  Some are of people I know/knew, others go back a century or so?  Got me thinking..........

On my fathers side, his father(and so on) claim Polish ancestery, from what I can garner I'm thinking Russian since the mid 1500's when the border, "moved";  I'm assuming it was better to be Polish when they hit New York.  His mother was german and that's about all I know about that.  Fathers side of the family spent a generation or two in the US, then Sask, then AB.  (when 14, my grandfather met immigrants at the train platform in a wagon, hauled them and their stuff to their 1/4 and dropped them there.........welcome home!)   We're 5 generations here going from my fathers side to my son.

On my mom's side my grandfathers family claimed scottish ancestry although some skin tone and facial features make me suspect some spanish? blood in the mix somewhere.  Grandmothers side was definitely irish, coming to Canada around the potato famine time like the rest of the irish immigrants.  Both my wife and daughter have thriving shamrock plants from slips from my grandmothers grandmother's plant in ireland.

Now on my wife's side:  Her fathers side we know next to nothing about;  other than her grandfather was german and a good hunter, she developed a taste for everything from cougar to bear at their table.  My wife's mothers side get's more interesting.  We're not certain of ancestry, but it appears her family was in central Canada about as long as there's been a, "central Canada".  Further, her great grandmother was a full blood indian.

Long story short, I tell our kids they're about as Canadian as you could possibly get.   :)

Anyway, back to the pics;  I get my forehead from an ancestor that lived in Indiana in the 1800's, my nose from a rus.........er, Polish, ya, Polish ancestor, etc, and I now have a photo to show a niece that could be a mirror.  Pretty interesting stuff.

I'd wager good money (and I'm not a betting man) that if you were able to see photo's of 7 or 8 generations of both sides of your family you'd find a photo that's like looking in a mirror.

Its day 3 of archery season and I'm whining cuz I filled my Elk tag and can't go Elk hunting lol. I got laid off from my "real job" yesterday morning for roughly 3 months (conveniant eh?), got nothing but time and nobody to go with, everybodys working :(

We got a new puppy the other day. I named the last 1 we got a year ago (my Rotti, Diesel) so the wife decided she was going to name this one. She named him Pickle. Yes....Pickle lol.

Slave Lake REALLY needs a decent gun / hunting store. Wal Mart & Canadian Tire are not bad for fishing stuff but its tough to find decent hunting gear. Cheap Seats in Athabasca is about the same drive from here as Slave Lake but I just dont like the place much.

Anyone making some miles to go hunting may want to check this site:  http://511.alberta.ca/ab/en.html#x=-12748271&y=7363358&z=1&l=36

Click the pylons on the map to see road closures/slowdowns.  I know our standard route N is out this year.  One road W and Bob's our uncle.   :)

No point looking forward to hunting all year only to get your blood boiling sitting stopped in line while you could have been 5 miles over and at highway speed.   ;)

You know,I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer and there's somethings in life that I just don't "get"..

So I hope someone can explain this to me....ahem

There are lots of innocent people being killed in Syria and Obama thinks the best thing to do is to send in a bunch of Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Isn't this going to kill a lot of innocent people?....duh"

I just don't "get" it but this song is just as relevant now as it was in the 1960's

I have no idea why obama want's to strike syria.  What's basically happening there is two different terrorist organizations are fighting over syria, both of which think western society should be wiped out, the sooner the better.  Plus, whichever side wins will just carry on killing christians and other branches of islam that manage to exist in that hellhole just like they have for the millenia.

Add to that other branches of terrorists in the neighborhood have stated that any western interference will prompt them to step up their own terrorist activities against our interests.  Not to mention I have no doubt that whichever side the US attacks;  russia and china will arm the other through iran.  Which side makes absolutely no difference.

Personally I believe nothing appreciative has changed in that area of the world in a thousand years and nothing ever will.  My 2 cents for what little it's worth is the smart move is to stay the hell away from that entire area and only accept true refuge's from that area;  eliminate any general immigration from those who do not want to assimilate into our society.

Thankfully both Mr. Harper and Mr. Cameron have no interest in getting involved.  (Cameron only due to cooler heads in their assembly)

Obama's hell bent on jumping willy nilly into a hornet's nest lined with vipers.  His bold threats of a month ago are being backed up with this over his pride;  nothing more, IMO.  The only difference between the killing of innocents in syria this month over last is that this month it's on cnn.  That's a pretty pathetic reason to open the door to the devil.

BTW, there's some currently unsubstantiated rumours that is was not in fact assad that used the saron, but the rebles.  The un's test results won't be final for a couple weeks yet, and obama want's the strike done ASAP.........make's ya wonder???
