Weekend With The Boys.
« on: August 11, 2013, 06:12:03 PM »
Was a great weekend around our house. The kids all came down for the weekend along with the grand baby so momma and I we were ecstatic..

The boys and I made good use of the time to get in some fishing and tune in some firearms.. We hit Cold lake Frid, Sat and Sun morning for a few hrs each morning. The lakers were biting very well both Frid and Sat but this morning they were surprisingly slow. They had to leave today so we never spent to much time at it, we left after just a couple hrs.

Saturday we shook the neighborhood up pretty good. We sighted in a couple new rifles and a new scope on another and tuned up a couple more. Then after supper we brought out the skeet chucker and blew off a couple hundred rounds of shells. Finlay shut er down around 9:00 pm..

In all one great weekend with the boys,, been a while since we all got time to spend together like this,, it was a blast..

P.S. the old man still had to show the boys how to break clays lol..

A few pics of the weekend.

Nice pics Walleyes, looks like you guys had lots of fun...

I have another downrigger question for you,  when you are trolling with DR what is your average trolling speed for lake trout. We were back in ETL for a few days and fished one full day for lakers, tried everything and nada bite.
I like the new Scotty 1066, I'll like it better when there are trout on the end.

Awesome.  Nice shooting table BTW, Terry.   :)
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

Good pics I can’t wait for my kids to get older.

I did some reloading work for a fella with a slip on shell holders like on your butt stocks.  My Dinty Moore beard was not impressed.

Do you require some help to show the Romanians how to do things? ;)  Looks like you and the boys had one hell of a weekend.  My son and grandkids were home for the weekend.  The 16 yr. old grand daughter & 6 yr. of grandson wanted to run all of the firearms that I own.  The young lady was damn good with them, with minimal experience.  The grandson was another story-loves the noise, could give a rat's behind if he hits something or not!!!  I am sure things will change.  The 16 yr. old wants to wale on a whitetail this year with grandpa's 25.06.  I can see it happening.  Another butchering project to show her the rudimentaries of the process.  Can't wait!!! ;D

Thx guys,, it was a fun weekend.. The neighbours probly hate me but in the end who cares lol..

Tuc..

I find that speeds between 1.8 - 2.0 mph GPSed work the best. It's always good to change it up once and a while just to mix it up, a change in speed will often cause a strike. This can be done either with the throttle or simply by doing a bit of a zig zag pattern once and a while. This causes the outside rod to speed up and the inside rod to slow down, this often works well.

It was an odd weekend for trout, first time ever that I saw a spoon out fish bait and like I said on Sunday morning they just slowed right down.. This and the fact they were deep 90ft produced the best with 75 coming in a little slower and almost nil at 50 and up..

I figured we were trolling a little too fast. The 60HP won't slow under 4MPH and I brought a batch of bad batteries for the trolling motor. Took 2 with me and neither were any good, battery charger said full charge but the trolling motor drained both of them within an hour.

The trout were deep on ETL too, nothing above 80ft. You could find schools of bait fish at about 50ft but the lakers were well under them. Growing pains Walleyes but I'll get onto er!
Thanx for the info...
