Info on Winefred Lake...
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:37:16 PM »
Hey guys, planning on hitting Winefred sometime this summer, just wondering if anyone has any info to share on this lake.   I would really love to know if there is any other access to the lake other than at the lodge.  A guy shouldn't have to pay to use the boat launch at a public lake IMO...

There is no other launch on the lake other than at the lodge. Keep in mind that all though the lake is public the launch isn't. That launch was built by private business and is maintained by private business help the guy out a little bit and throw him a couple bucks to use his launch. Its not like they are getting rich up there..

Last time I was there I remember another launch.  It is about 3/4 of a mile east of the lodge on another little road that branches off not too far from the Grist airstrip.   We launched a 20 foot jet boat there.   It may be owned by the Lodge as well but when I was there it was free to use.  It was a good launch with a breakwater built with big rocks around it.  The road went along that little lake at the south end of Winefred straight north of Grist.  The road was dicey when we were there but that was several years ago.

Good luck when you go.  We did alright for walleye and pike at Banana island and white cliffs.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

Yeah if it was only a couple bucks to help the little guy, I'd be all in.  Try $40 to launch.  Thats a few more than a couple by my math.  They may have built it and all, and I'm ok with them charging to use it, but $40 is a bit steep IMO.  That and they want $10/day to park your truck on top of that.   They might not be getting rich, but I'm sure they're doing alright...

Well each to his own H.T.

$10.00 a night to park your truck might be cheap to have someone watch it.. If some of them local boys find it sitting by itself out in the woods it might cost you a heck of a lot more than that.

Anyway with all that out of the way you gys have fun up there and take the cameras I would love to see if the lake still has a few hogs in it. Its been years since I was up there. used to hit it quite a bit but not in the last few years.. Best of luck to you guys..

Well, your right, $10 is pretty cheep to have someone watch my truck, its the $40 to put the boat in that I don't agree with.  If it was $10 and $10, that would be a great deal I wouldn't even question it.  I guess I'll take my chances and see.  We'll definitely be taking the cameras along, and hopefully we can get into some decent fishing while were there.  Either way it will be nice to get back into the north country for some R&R for a few days, I need to decompress a little...  8)
