What a day for a season opener the Pike were shallow and hungry. Was a personnel best day for me, not only my first time for pike on the fly but also a personnel best pike at 17# to boot it was on the fly lol.. In total we must have boated around 20 fish between the two of us. What a rush taking these monsters on a 9 weight fly rod wow..
It was pretty awesome we were drift fishing in the wind in a long shallow bay in 2 - 4 feet of water, you could see the mud swirls from the pike when we would drift to close to them and spook them. Jesse was running top water floater plugs and you could see the swirls from the pike as they would come for the hit. One of my pike a nice 12 pounder swung at the fly once, missed it and came again for it about 15 feet from the boat. He kind of came up on his side broad side to the boat, hung up in full view for a split second opened his mouth and lunged and hammered the fly,, all in full view what a rush. Jesse landed his personnel best a 23# pound pig..
An unforgettable day on the water. Here is a couple pics.
Started out with a couple small ones.
Then onto some nicer ones, a 12# fish
A 17#
And Jesse's hog,, takw a look at this beauty boys,, what a site when this one hammered a bait off the top lol..
