Spin casting lure suggestion for grayling?
« on: July 04, 2012, 04:50:29 PM »
Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a spin casting grayling lure.  For stream trout I typically use either a small yellow/black 5/diamonds spoon or else an orange feathered panther martin.

I've of course tried other things, but those are my standard, never fail go-to's, and they've served me well over most of AB.

Any suggestions as to wether my old standards will work OK?  Different colors better for grayling?
thanks.

I know that they love these 1/16 oz panthers:

Silver Mepps Agila. Only lure I use for stream fishing and we always have had good luck. Caught a ton of grayling in NE BC and in the Yukon with these spinners. Trout in Alberta can't resist them either and would bet the Grayling will hit them as well.
I hunt sheep to see over the next mountain not to measure the next trophy!

I'm also a big fan of the Panther Martin with the orange fly. I took a guy to one of my grayling hot spots and he was having great success with a silver Williams wobbler. He also caught one of the biggest rocky mountain white fish I've seen with the same lure. I also use a bobber/strike indicator and fly on a spin cast rig and out fished the panther martin 5/1 or better. My favorite fly's are olive tom thumbs and stimulator's.

I also prefer the Panther Martin, but I find the whitish silver with a red circle on the spinner work, and the green and black spinner.
