The ice is off of...

The ice is off at Jackfish Lake just west of Stony Plain.  I was surprised to find this out as I thought it was pretty early compared to other lakes, but I talked to a friend with a cabin out there, and it's off.  Anyone out there with an itch to get your boat out on the water?

We were up around the Cold Lake area on the weekend and all the lakes we saw were open up there as well. I never made it out to have a look at Cold Lake itself but all the smaller ones were open. I geuss do to the poor ice they had all winter do to the heavy snow fall made for early ice off.

...Last Mountain in Sask, and it's not pretty.  Highest water levels recorded since 1955, and on the way to setting a new record (artificially mind you, but don't get me started on that...).

The attached pic is of the marina at Regina Beach.  It was taken a couple weeks ago and the water has actually risen 2-3 feet since then.  The main pier that is over 50 years old washed out in a storm, and all of the pillars in the marina are submerged.  (They're normally about 10 feet out of the water, see second pic.)

There's really no place on the lake to even launch a boat right now, most of the ramps are under 3-4 ft of water, and even if you could launch, the totally changed shoreline and the amount of debris floating around in the lake would make it a sketchy proposition.

I'm not sure on the latest, but as of now, the Regina Beach walleye tourney is questionable to go.  Check the SWT homepage for the latest.

Lots on Sylvan, so I imagine Gull is the same.  Barrier, Spray, and the Kananaskis lakes all ice covered still.

I don't know if anyone else here fishes the SWT, but I just got the email, Regina Beach Walleye Classic is cancelled due to the flooding.
