West coast fishing 2011
« on: September 02, 2011, 10:20:07 AM »
Had two excellent trips out to the West Coast this year.

Spent the first two weeks of July at Prince Rupert with friends and family. Didn't get into the big springs, but we did catch some. Biggest was 21 lbs. Caught tons of Coho, Cod, Rockfish of all kinds, and some Halibut. Crabbing was unbelievable. Came home with full freezers and a TON of memories that will last a lifetime (if I quit cooking with aluminum).  ;)  Best thing about it was were were able to put the kids on a lot of salmon. Both my son and daughter played those salmon like pros. My son learned FAST why they call single action reels knucklebusters. I foul hooked a 17 lb spring that had us chase him for a hour to bring him in. He was caught in he side with a single hook, by no more than skin!! We thought we had a pig of a spring. A lot of excitement there!!

Next we went to Pender Island to visit my Dad. Went out in his boat to find the pink run. Really good run this year and it didn't take long to get into the salmon. One day of bad weather, I was glad to have a heated cabin!!

Here's some pics.

Can't wait to go back some time!

Looks like some great trips there Doug.  Sadly I did not make it out there this year.  I usually get one or 2 trips a year to either QCL or Bamfield.  I have no idea where the summer went, I have been letting work get in the way of Life.  LOL

Good stuff Doug nice pics. Love tht west coast. Only made it out once this year myself in mid April. My son and I hit Tofino. Unforetunetly the weather didn't cooperate and we coudn't get outside at all. We did manage one nice spring and a few crab and prawn. Do to the wet spring and delay in getting back to work I had to cancel our August trip this year. It was hard for me,, really hard. It was going to be our first run out to Tofino for the Chinnok run but just couldn't do it. oh well there is always next year Lord willing..

Sorry to run on,, thx for the nice pics..

It's pretty tough to beat the experience of being out on the ocean with your friends and family. Do it wihile we can, life is short!
