Browning A-5 Light Twelve with Hastings rifled slug barrel
« on: March 01, 2013, 07:40:58 AM »
So I bought this 1969 Browning A-5 amd currently it has the modified choke 2 3/4 barrel on it. But its supposed to have an interchangeable rifled slug barrel which I have no idea how to find in Canada? I don't know much about customs but I suspect its very difficult to bring stuff over from the US? Also, the Hastings barrel is Japanese made, does anyone know if using Japanese metal with Belgium made gun would cause any problems?Anyone have this gun and know much about it? Or can anyone suggest a dealer who might be able to help me track dowm the slug barrel for it?

Thank you :)

Been a while since i played with an A5 lol

Great old shottys.

If I remember right the barrels are interchangeable, but some fitting could be required.

Best to talk to someone in the know about that:

Try Dave:
D. HENRY GUNMAKERS LTD. ... Mailing Address: P.O. Box 424, Bentley Alberta, Canada. TOC-0J0. Courier Delivery: 4527-50 St. Bentley Alberta, Canada. TOC-0J0. ...

tel 403 748-3030

I think he only answers his phone on Wed. or something because he is so busy...

As for getting a barrel from the US - talk to Prophet River - They import guns.

Another (slim chance) might be western gun parts in Edmonton.

I would be interested too as I own an old Belgian made A-5 semi auto 12 guage as well.  It doesn't always eject properly and I was told I need a new eject spring.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric, Brother can you spare some ammo?

I can't help you then - I would suggest a gunsmith.

That would be a very cheap repair.

D Henry or Custom Gunworx - I have dealt with Dave and met Bob - both good guys that do good work.

I know you would have a real good chance of getting that spring from western gun parts in Edmonton - if you felt confident enough to take it apart......

Some years back I ordered a Hastings rifled barrel for my Rem. M1100 twelve ga.  It arrived with a note from customs to pay duty.

The barrel did not fit properly and when I phoned Hastings they suggested I send the whole thing down to them and they would fit it.

I mailed it off and it was lost in the mail.  When I got another request from Customs I told them the barrel had been sent back to the states and was lost.  They needed a copy of the trace from the post office and I sent them one.

Then the shot gun and barrel came back return to sender.

I sent it back down and they got it, fitted it and sent it back.  This time i got a notice from Calgary police that I had to send my original FAC (it was a long time ago) down to them as I was importing a firearm.

No request from customs this time.

I got the unit back and put a 2.5 power scope on it.  With Federal sabot slugs it will shoot 2 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards.
